FWIW, we were out of the lawrence race the day we signed Bridgewater.  He may not be an elite QB, but he's not as bad as what we fielded last year.  If we traded/cut cam and went into next year with Allen, I would have known we were tanking.

Totally joking

i give it a solid B+

What would have done differently? Or what didn’t you like because I’d say a solid A +/-.

The Panthers are tough to gauge honestly. We weren't as bad as our record showed last year. Not only did injuries make us worse than we already where, but after Ron was gone the team just quit.

I wouldn't expect to be markedly better wins and losses wise, but I would bet that our defense is light years better by simply having a pulse.

Very tough to gauge I’d say you’ve made such a Good point it should be a topic. The way we played with Kyle Allen is NOT a representation of the Panthers we had no coach no QB Luke was looking to move on as we see now aging veterans just trying to get through the season. But good point I can’t call the wins but we should be back to atleast an average defense.

On paper an A, however hurney rule makes it C-

Does the Hurney Rhule get negated with Rhule and all his college knowledge of players? Or J Chinn equal Armanti E and  YGM equal Eric Shelton?

I think we'll be able to draft Lawrence with our record being the worst in the NFL. Here is what I think might happen. Our center is the worst in the NFL, so we know crazy pressure is going to be coming right through the middle of the pocket at skinny Teddy with a bad knee. That alone should be enough to at some point cause a major injury and have us put in Grier, the worst QB in the NFL. But let's say the center position isn't what causes Teddy's injury, then it will be the LT position. Okung is injury prone and could have died from a pulmonary embolism last season, not to mention he's on the wrong side of 30. I don't think he's going to make it through the season, which means Little will be out there blocking poorly. Don't forget that our terrible o-line from last season was downgraded further by Trai Turner being sent packing. So more pressure up the middle of the pocket will be allowed, if one can even imagine that.

To sum up, Teddy is not going to make it through the season imo. If he doesn't then Grier will lead us to the worst record in the NFL and we can draft Lawrence.

I dunno I'm just not sure bout the upside of our first 2 picks. Brown is not gonna bust im sure. But I personally don't lie marginal athletes taken in the top 10. I wanted simmons but, I get their reasoning. I like the pick of brown but this isn't suh, mccoy, or even qunnien Williams, closer to star. And in a pass first league doesn't that mean the value of run stuffers goes down as well?

Brown had 13 sacks in his career and if you think he's gonna give you 8-10 a season in the nfl vs better competition your not thinking logically. Again he will be good at what were asking him to do and make those around him better but I don't believe in taking a none get to the qb guy that high.

Gross- mah is a intriguing pick... but he doesn't really show consistency or even the technique to walk in a day 1 starter.. its a gamble and I understand why... he was the best pass rusher left on the board but I dunno...

Chinn- now I love this pick! The guy has all the tools and freaky athleticism to justify the trade up. All it cost us was Kyle Allen a backup basically. He can walk in a starter or athlete contribute right away in packages. He is my favorite pick of the draft. The rest of the guys are just close your eyes and hope for the best.

In that scenario Trevor goes back to Clemson for his senior year...

...just like Andrew Luck did 10 years prior.

The all defensive draft was a step in the right direction for the Panthers rebuilding plans and has added a certain amount of excitement and anticipation for improvement. The Panthers still have a ways to go to be division contenders. Now it's up to the coaching staff to see if they are capable of making that step forward to become a constant playoff contender, after another good draft or two.
