Prediction: Any busts from this draft will be credited towards Hurney, any stars will be attributed to Rhule

We know that Hurney + Rivera was a borderline disastrous combo and at least one of the two had to go. It’s not unreasonable to think that Hurney + Rhule could be a success story.

JR + Hurndog + Rivera = Fail

JR + Rhule + Hurndog = Fail

Tepper + Hurndog + Rivera = Success

Tepper + Rhule + Hurndog = Smashing Success!

Gird your loins folks....Hurndog is here to stay!

Playing devil's advocate here, and just bringing up another scenario for the hell of it, but maybe the remote approach helped as well. Instead of a dozen people talking over each other, there's a much more focused approach.

I have absolutely no idea what it's like in the war room, so likely have no idea what I'm talking. But I'm seeing more and more good discussions pop up lately, so want to join in on the fun.

The other way around. Both Rhule and Hurney said Marty was leading the draft and Rhule was heavily involved in creating the board based on his familiarity with the college players.

Yep. Making picks and negotiating trades based on Rhule and CO’s board is Marty’s job. I mean 3 of the 7 picks were either one of the coaches players or they played directly against them last year. Yetur was recruited by Rhule. That Baylor C retiring and in retiring? Even the FAs, at least 3 of them (2 top) without thinking about the rest of them played for Rhule or Brady.

I do think Ron had a big influence on the last two drafts and was likely a big reason for Gettleman leaving because Marty was willing to do Ron’s drafting. Marty even said something about the drafts being pushed by Ron. I remember I posted that I thought Marty was alluding to Ron making a lot of the (bad) decisions. I think Marty drafted according to the coaches board and while he had the final say and sent the cards in so to speak, the direction and rankings were heavily influenced by the coaches. Seemed like at least half the non camp body guys in the draft or FA have direct connections to the coaches.

Exactly. This whole argument about who made the choices or had final say seems rather ridiculous. The GM wants the team to succeed which means getting the players the coaches want for their system. He has done that for Fox and Rivera. I actually think that Gettleman had final say on the picks and was clear at the time that he had final say. That tendency to do it his way and piss everyone off in the process is why he was fired. I think that Ron and Jerry both wanted Olsen and Davis resigned and Gettleman didn't, for example. When Gettleman wouldn't budge after blowing the Josh Norman issue earlier in the year it was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back and  he was fired.

    • Around the 11:15 mark, I think I see what triggered the unsportsmanlike penalty on Canales. I'm not overly familiar with sideline rules but that seemed really ticky tacky.
    • The crux of the issue is figuring out if he can be more consistent will cost us more. A lot more. The options as I see them now: Trade him Pro: We get something in return. No further financial liability.  Con: We must find a new guy + backup via FA/draft and they may not be cheap and/or could be worse than Young (see McCarthy). Young could be the next Darnold/Mayfield on another team, which means it's an organizational issue with (lack of) QB development. Fifth Year - No extension Pro: Gives us more time to evaluate and build up roster. Have a natural exit plan if he doesn't pan out.  Con: We get nothing for him in return if we let him go. We risk a Daniel Jones scenario where Bryce plays lights out, skyrocketing the cost of his extension. Extend now Pro: Provides stability for the near future. May be able to get a more reasonable contract number now since his stats don't scream franchise QB yet and/or structure it to where we give ourselves an out. Con: Bryce's agent demands whatever CJ Stroud will end up getting. We're hitching our wagon to him for at least a year or two. Cost of getting out of the contract. Likely ties Canales' fate to Young.
    • I hope Wallace can develop but he's a liability as a starting LB at this point. He didn't take the rookie to sophomore leap I was hoping he would.
