Why tf did they draft tommy Stevens if they were just going to extend Hill? I don’t get it. Let Hill and Stevens battle it out for gimmick QB 3 then sign one of the 2. 16 mil guaranteed for a gimmick 3rd string QB? God.. teddy salary is looking great

I think we're going to turn Stevens into a WR/TE, don't know why else we wanted a video of him running the route tree

rotoworld did an article about the GMs the other month and it said that Mickey Loomis is the only one in the NFL with a degree in accounting

Next offseason is going to be the interesting one for them.

I think this is it for Bree's because looking at next offseason.

Kamara will be hitting FA after this season.  Top tier RBs have been getting paid again.  How is this going to go down.

Top Tier CBs have been breaking the bank.  Lattimore will be going into his 5th year option and wanting that big $$$.  Byron Jones just got 5 years 82 mil.  Jalen Ramsey trying to go North of that this year, and im sure Lattimore is watching.

Ryan Ramczyk has been one of the best RT in the entire NFL.  He also will he going into his 5th year wanting to get a big deal.  Jack Conklin just got 3 years 42 mil and JaWaun James got 4 year 51 mil last year.   Ramczyk is much better and will be paid much higher.

Man I just don’t see it. I watched every game he played in last season (very few) and the dude can’t take contact. He was constantly out. Not sure how he’s an NFL TE

Did y’all watch that playoff game against the Vikings last year? He was the best player on the field and was what kept us in that game. He plays 7-8 different positions and only takes up 1 roster spot.

At only $16M guaranteed over two years, that’s $8M/year which is right around what we paid Teddy last year.

Saints fans are delusional about this guy lmao. They really expect him to be a franchise qb.

Nah, I got my eyes on Deshaun Watson when Bill O’Brien the General Manager decides to ship him off for peanuts. Hopefully Bill O’Brien the Head Coach doesn’t get them fired before he can hook us up on the low-low.

As noted above, that very statement has been repeated on here several times for the past decade. It never happens.

People are remembering the old days when a bad contract or two could kill your cap.  That was back when the cap was barely $40M.  There is a lot more room for errors and dead cap money now.

Taking a look at overthecap, it appears the Saints have pushed alot of their financial obligations off until 2021.  If they keep Brees, they have some decisions to make.  But if Brees leaves, he leaves a goodbye present of over $20M worth of cap space.

If there is no football this fall, a small silver lining for me will be knowing that the Saints pushed stuff off for the sake of a season that never got played.

Small consolation I know, but there it is.

The Saints went 7-9 for 3 straight years because they had no room against the cap and there drafts were terrible.  They had 1 great draft in 2017 and all of those players are on their rookie deal.  In 2021, they have 205 million that counts toward the cap right now.  Before any of the 2017 players are signed and before any of their current rookies are signed.  Every year they cut or resturcture half a dozen players to get under the cap.   Brees is a lot like Brady right now for them in that he covers up a lot of holes.  When he retires they will have no room to sign a replacement and the way they keep trading away draft picks, no way to draft a QB either.  Hill better be a good QB.

They went 5-0 without Brees. They went 7-9 due to that defense and since then have spent even more money. And unless management and coaching retires along with Brees they will just keep swindling the salary cap.

Not entirely factual. While the defense was a large part of the reason we went 7-9 in 2015 and 2016, it was mainly due to the departure of 3 players: Jimmy Graham, Junior Galette and Ben Grubbs, the former two having both earned handsome paydays entering the 2014 season and resulted in lots of dead money having to move them a year in their deals along with shedding Grubbs’ bloated deal after Year 3 of 5.

Galette literally lost his mind having two separate incidents involving violence against women; one where he assaulted a former live in girlfriend and another where he was caught on video swinging a belt at some random woman on the beach during an altercation with such ferocity that it’d even make Pootie Tang blush. Keep in mind these events bookended the Ray Rice fiasco in February 2014 with the beach incident occurring in 2013 (and not coming to light until over a year and a half later) and the other incident happening in January 2015 so we had to cut him lose.

With Graham, our offensive line was in desperate need of a high caliber center. We entered talks with the Seahawks for Max Unger and they wanted to know who was available. When it became clear nearly everyone was, they wanted Graham to which we obliged to help fix our hurting OL along with shipping Grubbs to Kansas City.

As for restructuring, we typically only restructure guys that we have no intention on cutting or trading and they have no problem with it considering they’re just getting more money in their pocket then and there.
