If you need a pass rusher and you think there's an elite one available I have no problem drafting one over the OT. My only stance here is that it's ridiculous to complete write off OT in the top 5.

I mean sure, there are exceptions to every rule like McCaffrey mentioned above, but that still doesn't mean that you or most of the NFL would ideologically endorse taking 1st round RBs.

"Exception to the rule" is a far cry from the original commentary on avoiding top 5 OTs that was contested on the purported immense worth of the offensive tackle position.

As i previously demonstrated with factual numbers you didn't like, top 5 OTs are not the exception to the rule.

if you want to operate under this pretense it's fine, but you forfeit your right to ever criticize Marty hurney, or any NFL exec, ever again. Afterall, they are the professionals and whatever they're doing must be the right course of action

we aren't talking about what teams do. Were talking about what they should do.

Protecting your QB is something that you should do. I wish we had considered it. It's not a coincidence that the one season we had competent LT pass protection we went 15-1 and ironically enough we lost the SB that year in large part due to Mike Remmers getting eaten up at RT.

Michael oher was a free agent signing, and when he was drafted he was drafted at the tail end of the 1st. Mike remmers was not a serviceable RT, he was a bad one, a bad one who was exposed by a top 5 draft pick at pass rusher.

Not overvaluing OTs over more significant positions doesn't equate to not caring about protecting your QB. It's a simple matter of understanding value in the draft. Acknowledging what level talents you can reasonably expect to get when your draft positioning regresses to the mean at one position versus another.

Lots of quality QBs have been drafted outside the top 5. You can find quality in the draft all over the place if you're diligent and lucky. It's a terrible excuse to exclude high value positions from top 5 consideration.

You know as well as i do this is a terrible argument.

Yes, yes Tom Brady was drafted in the 6th round. We know. That doesn't mean you go looking for one there, it doesn't mean you make your future projections on acquiring one there. You operate cognizant of when you're going to be able to address positions like that with real talent.

You guys derailed a decent thread

the real question is do you sell the farm to trade up for the QB, or stay put and put together another draft like this years

if we end up with the #1 pick that’s not a good predicator of Rhules abilities but likewise I want that #1 pick

I’m guessing we miss out on #1 and stay put

It's literally the argument you used. Yes, it is a horrible argument. That was my point. LOL

You just gotta walk away, you're in a stupid argument, and there is no one that will out stupid the scarf. He's a professional.

Yes, I’m already looking at it. Sorry Panthers fans, no Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields. Everyone got Jacksonville and Detroit up there.

I think we land middle of the pack, what are the Cbs looking like next year at the top of the draft?

I would agree with you if we had an easier schedule, but frankly it's pretty brutal this year.

I don't think we survive, even if we look good at executing, the season with incredibly thin depth all over.

I honestly think 5 or 6 wins is our ceiling. Depending on Short being resigned or not, and the FA market I think our pick is going to be OT, DT, QB, or CB.
