Get it in now!! Go on record with your intial thought on the draft...

Overall I like the draft.  Definitely could have been worse.  We traded up again.  Its like we are allergic to having too many draft picks.

I find it interesting that we seem to going for speed.  We also seemed to lean heavily on measurables which is a bit of a departure from the past.  Puts pressure on the coaches to get production out of them.

I'm not sure we are going to get as much immediate help out of this draft class as some think.  I'll be pleasantly surprised if more than 2 of them are above average starters this year.

Brown should be a 10yr quality starter for us.  Him and Young were easily the 2 safest picks in the class.  There were several DTs that fell to the 2nd and 3rd that I think will be solid pros, will be interesting to see how they compare to Brown over the next few years.

For the record, I would have done something like this:

7. Simmons (LB)

38. Johnson (CB)

66. Elliot (DT)

113. Robertson (CB)

148. Weaver (DE)

155. Muti (OG)

184. Wanogho (OT)

221. Bryant (TE)

Unless someone is dumped about the only signings going forward will be cheap 1 year deals.  And there won't be many of those, at most 3 or 4.

Pretty sure we only have like $7 mil in cap space and IDK if that includes the rookie deals. I don't believe so.

In my mock draft I had us taking Andrew Thomas at 7. When the rumor mill suggested that Tua might be available I wanted him over Thomas. If neither were available, then I was hoping for Herbert. I really wanted one of the top QBs or Thomas.  They all went off the board, so it came down to who I thought were the best available players.

Derrick Brown

Isaiah Simmons

Jerry Jeudy

Henry Ruggs III

You can't fix the defense with this draft. You can't fix the offense with this draft. Selecting Brown won't fix the defense, and selecting Jeudy won't fix the offense.

So which player could have the biggest impact over the next few seasons? With our offensive line totally wrecked, passing, especially deep passes, just won't work well at all. Taking Jeudy or Ruggs would be like spreading caviar over a slice of Red Barron pizza. It would be a total waste, and at a premium cost.

Isaiah Simmons is a terrific athlete, but it will take a brilliant DC to maximize his potential. I don't know that our DC is by any means brilliant, so it would be risky to spend the #7 pick on a tweener who might not be utilized properly.

Brown was the consensus pick for several months. He's been the "no duh" pick for nearly everyone mocking and following the Panthers. How can you screw up picking a mammoth monster who draws double teams like it's his job to do so, and literally picked up a RB and pile-drove his head into the ground like in a WWE match. How many times did Brown bull rush an o-lineman and send him flying backwards into the pocket? Match that with the fact that Rhule dumped players at critical positions on defense to totally clean house with no hope of winning this season, and you have Brown being the safe and obvious pick. Even if he doesn't rush the passer at an elite level in the NFL, is there any doubt that he can stuff the run? Is there any single aspect of play in the 2019 season that bothered Huddle fans more than our run defense letting RBs run wild? Panthers fans and Huddle fans especially HATE weak run defense. I think part of that is born from being used to having the lunch pale tough defense of Fox and RR, and never really having a high powered offense. We're accustomed to loading up the defense and praying on offense to win 17 - 13. So all 7 picks are used on defense, and the Huddle is thrilled. Back to what we know.

Without a QB better than TB we're going to have to win with our defense, sort of like the Vikings. We're staying old school.

Overall sax rating of 92.75*(+Kenny G riff)/100.00.

  • I can see Derrick Brown as a Year 1 Captain.  He just seems born to rip it in the NFL.
  • Gross-Matos and Chinn were unreal value for where we got them.  I just see really low bust rates in those guys.  The top-3 are instant starters.
  • Troy Pride has the tools to become a starter.  I don't know about a star CB1, but he has the potential to turn into a rock solid starter.  We stuck with guys like Melvin White and Benwikere for a bit with far less upside.
  • Robinson is super interesting. I truly think he's a steal after reading through all his stuff.  Diamond in the rough.
  • Would have loved taking a stab at a WR or LB in round 6 or 7 but UDFAs can be on similar levels as those end of draft types and we snagged some good ones.
  • Rounding it out, Rhule knows what he's getting in Roy and the kid with 3 first names seems interesting.

Regarding who's starting at CB1 and CB2:

The guy who played a big chunk for us and started 3 games last year in Javien Elliott is sitting there as a free agent.  We even re-signed Cole Luke instead of him.  So, that tells me we already feel secure enough to be a in serviceable position at CB if needed.  There are a ton of starters still there that will be cheap.

Rodgers-Cromartie, Cockrell, Apple, Dennard, Logan Ryan, Kirkpatrick, Amukamara, Trumaine Johnson.  If we need a vet, we'll pick up a vet.  Same with LG and an extra DL but we seem fairly set.

Yeah, we will see. We are kind of cap strapped at the moment, aren't we?

I am sure we could manufacture whatever cap room we need. We have our own capologist now. But I doubt we go all in this year. Expectations are low which is when you throw all the rookies in to take a beating but they eventually improve during their rookie season. Depends on what kind of preseason occurs and how much work they get in I guess

Seriously? Unless you were a WVU fan or watched the XFL, it’s not surprising at all that people don’t know every safety in the draft. I’d never heard of him before. He certainly wasn’t at the combine and wasn't going to be at the WVU pro day that didn’t happen. He definitely wasn’t on any top safety list I looked at, but in here everyone knew about him in 2018 and think he was a first round prospect.

Every safety? The XFL was played on ESPN, ABC, Fox, and FS1. It's not hard to spot this guy, especially when in the Spring when the best sports are CBB, NBA, and NHL. XFL=football. And I love football.

We can generate $13 mil in cap room immediately, actually.

Congrats on being one of the 10 people who wasted hours watching the XFL. I know I had way more important things to do, so did the rest of the NFL. 1 XFL player (our pick) was drafted. That’s it. Did you watch tape and games of every single player drafted in the 5th round? I sure don’t recall all your pre-draft posts about players.

Again, it’s not surprising that anyone who didn’t watch the XFL (most NFL fans) or WVU football (most NFL fans since they haven’t been good recently) would not be aware of him.

So yeah, the XFL's ratings were above a million the vast majority of their games. So, that's completely wrong, but don't let me let facts get in the way of your stellar opinion. The thought still stands, I believe OP just watches the Panthers and that's it. And no, the only Draftable player was Robinson from the XFL. Everyone else was a FA or could sign as a FA. The more you know!

Well, after the 63% viewership drop from week 1 to 2, by week 5 TV viewership was 800k. They literally canceled the season halfway through and you are actually trying to make it seem like the viewership was good?

Also, I said most NFL fans didn’t watch. The week 5 numbers were about 5% of normal NFL games not counting around 1 million a week in the stands. More people in the stands of NFL games than watching the XFL. So, again if 95% of NFL fans weren’t watching the XFL as it folded you think my most comment is completely wrong? Might want to bone up on the math because 95% >>>>>> most.

Wasting 15 hours since I couldn’t watch the last 15 hours after it was cancelled doesn’t seem worth the time for one 5th round prospect.

It’s ridiculous to get on someone for not watching the entire XFL season to prep for the draft knowing there was one draft able guy and even the PFF article linked mentioned that it wasn’t easy to evaluate given the level of the other players. Congratulations that you did, but I’ll take your lack of an answer to mean you didn’t watch film on every other 5th rounder. Slacker.

They canceled the season because of the pandemic. LOL. Wow. So, not only are you incorrect in your assessments, you're just saying poo to say poo.
