Nailed it?  No.  But it's what they needed to do to bolster the defense.  They are not done with it by a long shot but it's a good start.  This team is about 10 decent starter quality players away from competing for the playoffs.  If they are lucky they just got 4 of them, but it's more than likely just 2 and some depth.  Fans over value their own teams players.

I was all about Brown and Chinn. Didn't think we had any chance for Detur and the trade up for Chinn was excellent at 64. Excellent talent and value.  We kept up our recent theme of getting faster and more athletic. I like finally getting bigger athletic guys in the secondary and having the ability to play press and man schemes. And we still need help at DT but we got better for sure. This draft is what I hoped for to improve the defense.  We need to take a lesson from the Pats and have physical corners who press well and make you one dimensional.

As for these guys being day 1 starters, honestly outside of Brown most of these guys have great upside but need work to be a starter. Having rookie starters means mistakes and giving up big plays. Maybe we do for  the sake of the learning process and low expectations.  But I would prefer we have veterans starting at most positions and working the new guys into the rotation as they pick up the scheme.  Yeah I want to compete this year.  Maybe we won't but at least that should be the goal.

I already stated I love this draft and gave it an 'A'.  Mainly because it went to root deficiencies with this team, the defense, took productive players without projecting--except one, the 7th rounder, which is okay.  In the past I felt that positional groups got thrown a bone to keep the peace, so the draft for us was like handing out candy on Halloween, everyone gets a piece.  This year they aggressively attacked positions of need AND took BPA...in that order.  Offense, sorry, we had bigger fish to fry.  Outside of round 1, where you generally take BPA regardless of need, this team would take head-scratching prospects citing BPA later on in the draft.  Hurney would then always have his hidden gem pick (he was the only one searching apparently) or get caught projecting a guy that again, no other team saw in a prospect.

All this went away this draft.  I have no idea if Rhule was the key factor or Hurney has heard the masses and finally thought well maybe, just maybe I'll attack the draft a bit differently this year.  I could only imagine if Hurney would have wised up like this year's ago if we would have a SB trophy or two by now.

Good God people relax

Relax on thinking we had a good draft? I'm just saying this draft feels better from the start than drafting Vernon Butler and amini silatolu type players.

Who knows if they pan out? But I like our chances compared to years past. Rhule, Snow, and Brady might just know how to properly use and coach up these guys ...

I am happy with this draft. Nothing earth shattering, but the draft spoke strongly of purpose and direction. It is pretty clear that Rhule is building a team for speed and explosiveness. Will this years draft be enough to win the division? Probably not but we aren’t going to be embarrassed either. The later round guys are “meh” but that’s pretty much to be expected, they still fit within the mold of what it looks like Rhule is building so I like that he got some guys on the back end to compete for backup spots or to develop.

Again, just my feeling. Time will tell, but this draft just feels different than any draft we've had in recent memory. I like our 6th and 7th round selections better than our usual 2nd and 3rd rounders .. would be hard to top the Gross/Smith draft but I think said and done this one could wind up being up there. Hell even the Newton year, name one other halfway decent player we drafted?

Well for the secondary guys, we might not have much of a choice. The depth chart is pretty thin.

Agreed. I really like the draft but let's let this play out before we start going down that road. It isn't fair to the guys we drafted to start annointing them as the best class ever.

    • I like that a lot; Ware from Troy and also Khalil Mack who played at University of Buffalo
    • I remember the Huddle consensus over the course of last season and the previous one. Lots of Bryce is a bust, we should've drafted a 4th slot WR, should've kept Wilks, should've kept an armless Cam, etc etc. So... yea... already thought about that. I wouldn't trust the Huddle to detail my car, let alone run a multi-billion dollar professional sports team. 😛
    • bold prediction, I think Mike Green will be the best pass rusher in this class, and thats even with abdul carter.  He reminds me of demarcus ware, not just in size and prowess, but even coming from a Sunbelt school (Ware from Troy, Green from Marshall).  I think he is passionate about the sport where I think Carter as the physical freak might not have the heart.  Thats the guy Im sold on and am gonna hammer the table for, I know he's not projected 8, but he is projected like 12-13, so if a slide back can happen and we still get the guy I want, I'm 100% on board. All that said, it takes 2 to tango, I think the Cowboys are the tango-er.  IMO theres a VERY good shot that Jeanty is available at 8.  Why does that matter?  Not only do the cowboys NEED a runningback (dak sucks without a run game), but MORE importantly, gee where did Jeanty play in high school.....Frisco TX, literally Dallas Metro.  Soo, RB is a position of need and the best RB and most blue chip draft selection that  could improve the offense immensly played IN dallas metro AND will be in range for them to move up and pick?  Do ya think Jerry Jones is gonna just say no to the Jersey Sales?  Jerry might have sexually assaulted a woman and attempted to prevent black people from going to school, but he's no idiot (he is).  IMO, we get a good enough package, prlly their first and third,  maybe a conditional later and we move to 12.  We get Green, they get Jeanty, everbuddy happy.
