Day 3 Draft Discussion

Mr. Scot

Is anyone tired of listening to Kiper?  I would like to beat his arse, were I a violent person and not a peace-loving lamb of a man.  Just bruise him a bit.  And shave his head--leaving a small patch of hair on the back so I would have some thing to grab as I was flushing his face in a public toilet.  Would that be frowned upon?

This may not mean much, but Kenny Robinson shut down the best receiver in the XFL when that league was happening. Robinson was once considered a first-round prospect, but decided to play in the XFL. The Panthers are potentially getting a great steal.

I know we weren't rebuilding the entire offensive line in a single draft, but at least one would have been nice.

I can imagine part of the thinking here, although I don't know if it is actually what the front office has in mind.  According to PFF we had the 18th ranked O-Line, which isn't very good but isn't terrible (pretty much middle of the pack).  We had some guys underperform who might pick their play back up, but even if they don't we have a borderline adequate line.

On the other hand, our defense was bad.  Extra bad.  So you load up on defensive needs this year.  See who pans out and who isn't going to cut it.  Then you can focus on improving the offensive line next year and just grab a couple defensive players as needed depending on what holes we still see there after next season.

this doesn't make a lick of sense

Burris is probably going to be a CB this year, he has played both.  Boston is on a 3-year deal, but can be cut after 2-years, possible even after this season.  So basically if we keep Chinn at safety, we just drafted our starting safeties for the foreseeable future in this class.

It would be nice if we tried to get some. We could have had comp 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th next year but we will only get the 5th. Some teams value them and some don’t. Having four next year would have given us a ton of ammo to move up this year if we wanted to, but we didn’t go full rebuild.

Happy with the draft but this is a really deep draft.

The Panthers are allergic to comp picks apparently.

Fwiw, we did take little and daley last year, and moton the year before and we did trade for okung with paradis and larsen still on roster.  Our biggest problem last year was the injury bug, so we still have guys that can grow.  On defense, we have nothing and I'm starting to feel a lot better about our defense.

If he played in the XFL, how was he not a free agent

We just took the XFL guy

Who the hell did we just take? Why? Quality guys still there and we took a guy who couldn’t make the NFL before. First pick I hate. Who let Marty out? He loved those AAF guys last year instead of doing work on UDFA.

Can someone top level explain how this works? Why couldn’t we just sign him like other XFL players?

I think there was a rule that the XFL free agents either had to be a certain age or had to have graduated high school some number of years ago, but he didn't qualify so he goes into the draft.
