Weatherly is an overpaid gamble, so I can see the logic. Maybe he pans out to being a guy that can be a key two deep member, if not we can get rid of him at just about any time with little cap impact. 

We have some guys we can build on. As you said, it's a start. I am not going to enjoy any of "the process" to get there but it is a start.

I don't agree with that. I am not nearly as down on him as a lot of you guys are. He is still a high caliber DT and he'll most likely be the best player on that defense by a wide margin next season.

He hasn't been the same since this last extension. I agree that last years injury and scheme failure skews that a bit to far but it's there and at $20 million just being OK is a problem. I hope you are right but I fear you are not.

Well CMC is overpaid and so is Shaq, so it is what it is on the money. We have plenty to spend and haven't spent a bunch. We don't seem too interested into trying to roll over cap, so that is out the window. The problem will take care of itself after the next season or two. 

We just have to hope he produces at a top 15 DT rate and is able to mentor some of these younger guys. That's about all we can get out of it.

CMC produces and if a little over paid now, is still in another category than Shaq or KK (KK was there for a time). If Shaq doesn't step up into what ever role he is now with that deal and Luke gone, he will be in the 'when can we get rid of him/OMG that contract sucks' bin. I had and continue to have concerns that Shaq's contract was worth it, yes even losing Luke. We will see shortly. In his defense, I never really felt he had a place in Ron's D. Where the blame for that falls I do not know. The buffalo nickle idea was a bust and when TD was here he was basically a backup. Last year was a failure top down so I don't know there but not great vibes.

Contracts kill value. We got rid of Turner because of it. He used to play like that contract was worth it, not any more and he is gone. Same with KK, doesn't matter who is behind them. It's brutal and non-personal. 

KK is whatever for me. If we can get mentorship out of him or even decent play, awesome sauce. If not, later gator it was fun for a while and now you get to go live very comfortably the rest of your life.

I don't think he will be better than KK as a rookie. If you said in year two or three, I could see that. In fairness it is also one guy on the declining portion of his career versus a guy who is ascending in his career. They are also different kinds of DT's, as well.

If he falls that far.  He's been practically a consensus late 3rd to mid-4th guy almost this entire process.  He's one guy whose stock hardly moved up or down much.

But if he does!

I ran the mock simulator throught TDN and he fell to the 5th every time this morning.  A lot of QB runs etc expected to happed today, especially after I believe Jalen Hurts was the only one take yesterday

I like this draft, but I think y'all expecting too much out of these kids this first season. Realistically you can expect a better run defense, but the pass-rush is going to take time to develop. You have to remember that this past season while the defensive line was horrible in run defense, they could rush the passer with ease. It's going to be a real fall off from that perspective. Even losing Kuechly you can expect a few less sacks, though he wasn't known for it.

Chinn is going to take a few seasons, unless he improves a lot in the off-season. Every game I've watched so far is showing me we drafted an athlete, but he's going to need a lot of coaching to get up to an NFL level. Though I guess that's why the Panthers got Matt Rhule.
