I'm counting 1.5 starters. I'm counting Brown, and I'm split on YGM and Chinn. I think YGM or Chinn will get the nod about halfway through the season, beating out Weatherly or Burris, depending on our scheme/matchups. It's hard to say which at this point. Regardless, we did exactly what we needed to do this draft (minus addressing the depth on OL and possibly CB). I see futher offseason transacitons to address these.

The 1st is a given. 

I think YGM is a back up/replacement for Burns.  Weatherly will man the other DE spot.

Chinn maybe by default but he will still have to show out to win the job.

The 4th rd CB may have a better shot at a job before Chinn or YGM.

That big pile of man from Baylor could also end up seeing more time than other rooks by necessity.

YGM will be rotational until we figure out what to do with Haynes Miller and Obada, or he just blows up and we can’t help but put him on the field.

I don’t think Chinn will start over Burris and we aren’t even sure of his position yet. DB is the only guarantee starter.

I think Burris is moving to CB.. Miller is starting at Sam linebacker with Whitehead in the middle and Shaq on the other side...

It’s almost near impossible to compete with all that cap being eaten by players that aren’t here physically or mentally.

IMO I agree, these are learning years, 2022 we will begin to compete problem is will Teddy solidify himself by then or we will be able to find a franchise QB.

That's usually the price you pay of rebuilding a team. You have to dump guys from the previous regime that don't fit the new scheme and culture. The only one that hurts is Luke because they likely wanted to keep him but I still think there's a chance he either comes back and plays one more season or is a coaching intern.

No, you don't get dead money back, it's already spent.  What the team did was go ahead and get rid of players with high dead cap that likely were not going to be here.  Next year we have $0 dead cap...thus far.  So theoretically (if nothing changes...it will though) we get our entire 2021 cap.  Some will argue to go cut a few more players to generate even more cap room for next season since you  can split hit over two seasons.  Right now we are projected just under $50 million and with the cap bump that happens every year, should be right at it.

I mean if the Taints can navigate FA successfully with darn near no cap money every offseason, we should be able utilize $50 million.  That debunks the whole notion that you need to be flush with $100+ million in cap room have a successful FA.  That kind of room is for bottom feeders and usually...always shop hungry in FA, giving out bloated, bad contracts.

Here is how I see it--

CB:  Pride starts

DE: Yutir Gross-Matos rotational, at least at first--if you have 3 DEs working into the mix, it really won't matter who is starting. 

SS: Chinn > Burris, but Chinn probably is not starting day 1.  Day 2, however...

DT:  Brown starts

FS:  Boston starts, but Robinson will win that job and see the field in some 3 S sets

DT/NT: Roy:  Part of the rotation at NT. 

 

I also think we will see some undrafted free agents participating:  TE, ILB (Orr), and WR (Bayless).
