Marty was trying to trade back into the first round to get Gross-Matos

He could fit in better with the current system and coaches.  We don't know yet.  If we trade him for a fifth round pick, I will be disappointed.

I won't really be disappointed. I am not particularly high on him and overall I would consider him tracking towards being a bit of a bust after being the 40th pick of the draft. He can be a useful guy as a utility weapon on a team that uses him properly. He will never be a regular #1 or #2 WR in the NFL, IMO.

But, hey, I don't mind if he stays and proves me wrong.

Guys I'm sorry, but pinning the Panthers trying to trade up soley in Marty Hurney is the dumbest thing I've heard, if your going to be mad at him, you need to be mad at Rhule and Tepper also, bc if y'all really know Hurney, he's a brown noser, a people pleaser and a yes man......he only does stuff if the people he wants to fit in with agree. And do people really think Marty has that much power when the coach has a 7 year contract? He's literally just a public punching bag for bad decisions in this regime for the year, and if he makes it past this year, Rhule will still more then likely have majority control of roster. Whew lol

Rhules philosophy is so different from Rons. Its all about athleticism and measurables. Did it at baylor and temple. The guys weve drafted (well not Brown) are athletic freaks and Brown is just a monster. This draft has rhules fingerprints all over it. Not sure what hurney has control over tbh.

It may have been his call to move up for Chinn, but im positive Rhule was pleased with that selection.

So that’s a good point.  Tepper like Marty.  What if Rhule can help guide  Marty away from some terrible mistakes?   So far I like the picks from this new combo.

Marty's contract is up after this season.

The only way he could stick as if Tepper extended him or gave him a different job.

Literally every year there are reports Hurney tried to trade back into the 1st round to get X player (last year Little)

And yet, it never happens, he never does.  I would think if he was trying, he would have found a suitor.

So these stories don't really hold up.

"Marty tried to trade up for Clausen" (and yet it didn't happen)

"Marty tried to trade up for Little" (and yet it didn't happen)

"Marty tried to trade up for Matos" (and yet it didn't happen)

So either those stories are not legitimate, or Marty is clearing not willing to give up anything of substance to make it happen (which shows he's making sound decisions).  Because there are always plenty of teams who would love to trade down, so the fact it never happens is revealing.

He seems to have learned his lesson after the 2000s.

Great post.
