Marty was trying to trade back into the first round to get Gross-Matos

Has Hurney EVER traded down? Serious question. That to me, plus the fact that he always tries to trade up, shows an overconfidence in his scouting ability. This all is, at the end of the day, guesswork at best

Jk just remembered we traded down and got beason and kalil for ......darrelle revis

lockdown CBs are gold but that wasn’t a terrible deal

The Otah trade wasn’t horrible either. Injuries don’t help.

everything else he’s proven to be horrible. Trading a first for everette brown, trying to trade for Clausen

he deserves to be mocked forever for how he screwed up the team and wasted cap space on many players from a 2-14 roster.

In the video it's Pete Prisco who says that he "thinks" the Panthers were attempting to move back into the 1st for Gross-Matos.

What is more interesting is what Jonathan Jones said, he reports that the pick was between Gross-Matos and Ross Blacklock the DT from TCU.

Makes me think we would still consider a DT on day 3. A guy like James Lynch or Leki Fotu could be the pick in round 4

Wouldn’t shock me to see us pick lynch.  Heck we still only have 3 DTs and 5 DEs.

The Panthers absolutely tried to trade back up into the first round to get Little last year and Gross-Matos this year. It wasn't successful because trading up into the first round is difficult as hell. GM's don't really want to give up that cheap 5th year for first round picks.

And a decade or so ago, Marty tried to trade up to pick #33 with the Rams to get the team's next franchise QB--Jimmy Clausen.

I heard that he was trying to trade up and figured that Epenesa was the target.  I now know that was wrong, but I am man enough to admit it.

Nah.  I deny it.

Which is perfectly fine. Sounds like Marty is doing his job. He should be contacting teams in the late first round and offering them peanuts to try to move up.  There's no harm in it. The worst the other teams can say is no.  And if one were to accept, he'd look like a genius for being able to move up into the first round on the cheap.  The fact that he's restrained himself and not let the other teams talk him into giving up the farm shows that he is doing just fine.
