Where we stand after the draft

If QB is the end all be all for 2021 next year reminds me of 2004 with the number of names. You DONT have to have #1 or #2 to get a good qb.

Lawrence, Fields, Trey Lance, Jamie Newman, Brock Purdy, Tanner Morgan..also there will probably be a Joe Burrow prospect that comes out of nowhere.

relaxxxxxx...when it was reported that we are interested in 2021 QB class more than 2020 it was probably accurate. This is for the long haul...not the short term like the Bucs (Rams 2.0) are trying to do.

Yeah but look at how unbelievably thin we are along the DL. Not including our misfit 3-4 EDGE rushers(Burns, Haynes, Miller) our roster has:

DE

Yatur Gross-Matos

Efe Obada(project)

Chris Smith(JAG)

Stephen Weatherly(project/depth)

DT

Zach Kerr(JAG)

Derrick Brown

Kawann Short

Woodrow Hamilton(JAG)

That's a really, really weak unit overall with some high end talent sprinkled in(Short, Brown, YGM).

Man this is too dam funny to me, Burns a misfit check the measurables matter fact check his stats top five in QB pressures per snap. He’ll be much much better bigger and easily ready to play 4-3 ball like he did at FSU (do you even watch film) especially with the added push upfront a healthy KK stop living in denial. Efe played well in the 4-3 played well in the 3-4 has had time to grow into his NFL body you think he’s still a project or solid rotational piece as it stands? Weatherly was the top rotational piece on a nasty Minny line for 2-3 yrs had one down year after two strong seasons at DE years for a rotational piece you say a project lol. Your backups can be jags at DT when you have a top 5 and the top rated DT coming into the draft. This ain’t the dam all star team my guy we have premier talent up front a nightmare for opposition this season.

I can't believe we still have people making the "build an elite roster, then you can get an elite QB" argument

Just how much do you have to be made fun of before you stop saying that.

The Chiefs weren't "one piece away" that "just needed a QB" when they drafted Patrick mahomes. The chiefs still aren't even *that* good.

But they have one elite player at the only position that really matters.

I disagree because your way off on the one elite player that’s funny, with Kelce elite Jones elite Tyrann Mathieu elite Tyreek elite OT Schrawtz ELITE so it seems you build up a very dominant roster then add that key cog to finalize the deal.

One thing some people are not thinking about....

with CHECKDOWN Teddy, CMC will lead the league in catches. I will not be surprised if he gets close to 150 catches. This will be the year that CMC gets used up, if he plays the same percent of plays as last year we will completely use up our greatest weapon.

i know 150 will not lead the league but you know my point

Are you thinking about the system Joe is bringing have you seen footage on the LSU or what about last year Saints games??? Teddy hit everybody on the field just go back and check the stat line on his games before you just randomly say asinine nonsensical points of view. Week 6 last year Mike T 8 catches Alvin 7 catches that seems like what we can expect I can keep going if need be. Week 5 Mike 11 catches Alvin 6 catches etc it’s funny to say check down Teddy but when you dive deeper the narrative should be a winning QB with good pocket presence and a accurate arm but keep up the nicknames.

the best outcome for this year is we are competitive in every game but lose narrowly and end up with Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields next year

Or Trey Lance.

Love Trey Lance..

Yeah, he will be a good pass rusher for sure. But what were we woefully deficient in last season? Run support. What do undersized speed rushers usually struggle with? Run support.

Again, he doesn't fit the traditional 4-3 DE mold. He would be deadly as an edge guy in a 3-4. And yes Obada is still a project. He is literally still learning the game. He is also 28 years old, so his "peak" may not intersect with his "prime."

People are unfairly piling high expectations on a team and unit that is likely to be pretty bad. It's a process and we are just beginning it.

I agree with everything but the Burns fit in a traditional 4-3 thing.. I still don't understand the logic of that opinion..

I think we ultimately should probably move Burns. He would be a killer player in a 3-4 as a Von Miller/Khalil Mack mold(he is obviously not the level of player those guys are) but I think he is going to be a relatively one trick pony as a 4-3 end. We will see but I do think it will prove to be a bad pick for us in hindsight. Not to say he won't be successful elsewhere.

I don't agree we are better as a unit than last year. We are considerably worse when you look at the depth. If you eliminate injuries(which obviously didn't happen), last year's unit was leaps and bounds better than the unit we have currently. If you include injuries(which we had so many of), then we are probably even worse.

That's ultimately my point, it is a great that we have this influx of high level talent but unless our JAG level depth becomes valuable contributors, don't expect to see the defense to be anything but another bottom five unit. We need to manage our expectations here. Our roster is absolutely DREADFUL. We have some potentially talented younger guys we signed, some guys we just drafted(and are going to draft) and 2-4 other "core" players. Other than that, it's a bunch of players on 1-3 year rental deals and a boatload of JAG's. Make no mistake, we are at the start of a total rebuild, not 3-4 years into the process. We are a very bad team. We are going to be a very bad team. That's why you have our owner telling PSL holders this process may take a while. It doesn't mean that we can't get excited about the picks, but we need to understand how badly we are likely to perform and that it doesn't mean that the good draft we are having is an instant failure.

Von Miller played in the 4-3 his first 5 seasons, and was more productive than  when they switched over to the 3-4
