Where we stand after the draft

We were 5-11 last year. We lost a HoF MLB. We did not replace that. We lose our #1 corner and did not replace that. We lost pieces on the d-line but I think we actually improved there and that will help out the back end a little bit. I think we will have an average NFL offense and our defense will be improved this year despite the losses.

However, Tampa Bay and New Orleans are the class of the division right now with Atlanta sitting in front of us a little. This season is still going to be a struggle from our divisional opponents all the way to the games we play outside the division.

I think we will be an improved team from last year but I still see a team that goes 4-12 or 5-11 again due to who we will be playing. It’s exciting because despite the likelihood that we are a bottom feeder team in 2020, you can see the pieces getting built to own the division in a few years. I was pleased with every pick we made this draft but I’m trying to be realistic as well.

Our schedule is brutal but I think our boys are going to show some major promise this year.

We got worse on the DL, worse at LB and are substantially worse at CB/S. We are bringing talent in but they are going to take a beating. We are better at WR, the same at QB, worse at TE and worse at the OL as far as starters and depth. We will see if we upgraded at coaching which I think we have as far as scheming, but worse as far as experience. This has 2-14 written all over it. And with the first selection of the 2021 draft, the Carolina Panthets select Trevor Lawrence. Three years of tough times lead us to playing for titles.

Right now the best 3 things we can hope for this coming season is:

1. This season gets Rhule all the experiences he needs as a first time nfl head coach to make the transition.

2. We hit on all our picks this draft, wether cornerstone, backup, role players ect. This will help identify what fa we need to target and set us up to add the next cornerstone pieces in the next two drafts.

3. We have some master plan for getting a qb, Teddy is good with a bunch of talent around him but he’s not a franchise guy, pray we have a plan and pray it doesn’t involve trading valuable draft picks or players in the process, and pray we don’t whiff

OP what makes you think that one offseason and 3 rounds of a draft means we will make a turnaround and be competitive again? I call BS on the organization saying that we will be competitive this year. They thought there was a shot then Kuechly retired and the Cam drama started. I’m not looking forward to a winning season until next year at the earliest.

We wont be the worst team in the league next year. If we are by chance and bad luck Idk if taking LAwrence should be the move. Someone will be so desperate for him they will make a Ricky Williams type offer and I for one wouldn’t think twice to take it. Lawrence is great don’t get me wrong but I don’t see him being a game changer for us. Mahomes was the last piece to an already talented roster. We do not have that kind of talent yet. We can try to build up the talent then sign a QB or draft a year or so after. If we do go Lawrence we will surer be waiting a few more years for things to fall in place. Not many free agents will want to come to this poo show unless we over pay because of our lack of consistency and what happened with Cam. I’m all in for whatever works but we spent the last 9 years hoping one player would get us to the promise land, I really don’t want to have to go through that all over again.

Subjectively looking at the Roster, there are improvements that have been made. At QB, I'm talking about Allen vs Teddy. Not involving cam since he's an anomaly for anyone. The Defensive line got substantially better, despite what others around here are saying, we got young and nasty in the front. You will see that. The offense is the one that is a little hard to gauge since we've not seen this unit take a snap together ever. Chemistry will be an issue. Also the playbook, not sure if everyone will be up to speed.  I can say we are definitely a 5-11 team but with the current moves, this team will look at a 2-4 game difference in the positive.

How we do depends greatly on our health and how healthy our opponents are when we play them.

I think we lost a lot of dead weight on the defense (except for Luke retiring, but he wasn't even himself last season). On the d-line, I think we're more solid than before and KK can look to either side and see young, hungry, top-end players -- he may be inspired to really work hard. We got the best DT in the draft and a DE that many had projected to go late in the first round. We also picked up a safety/nickel player that some of the folks called the hidden gem in this draft.

We should have an experienced, competent and healthy QB under center this year, the hands down best running back in the game, some excellent receivers (with experience) and the hottest OC to come out of the college ranks in recent years.

I think those projections of us having a terrible season, or even a middling one, are terribly pessimistic. This won't be a Superb Owl team, but we will compete and maybe even surprise some folks.

Defensive line got younger and better. Safety should be better with Chinn and Boston. Offensive line should be better with and actual LT and depth,  WR should be better with the young guys getting experience and Anderson, QB should be better and RB should be the same. Drop off at LB, TE, and CB. That’s with only half a draft and half an offseason. Considering we lost Cam, Luke, Olsen, Addison, McCoy, Irvin, Bradberry, and Cockrell that’s actually pretty impressive. Most importantly our salary cap will be fixed by next year!
