Do not expect to see all issues fixed this year.

I think that is a "shooting for the moon" projection. IMO, this is the least talented roster in the history of the franchise.

It is at the moment and probably this coming season.  But there is a lot that will change before we get to the 2nd season under Rhule.  They are starting to build the defensive trenches this year so far.  I reserve the right to update my projection as time goes by.

I'm generally a pretty optimistic person.  I feel we are heading in the right direction.  We should see improvement this year and contending for a playoff spot next season.

I would be pretty surprised if we are in any sort of playoff contention until Brees and Brady retire and potentially until Ryan is gone. We are a team currently constructed of rental guys on 1-3 year contracts. It will be a very long time before we can build a complete roster.

We will have a ton of cap next year as well

Yeah but building a team by blowing a shitload of cap room on free agents has a pretty terrible track record. IMO, we basically have two core players currently, Thompson and CMC. Both are at two of the most devalued positions in the NFL, so we need to build a real roster core eventually and that doesn't happen overnight. Moton could be one, DJ Moore could be one, Burns could be one. The rookies could be one.

But, the rest of the roster is pretty ass. It's a lot of gambles and rentals.

Not happy we didn’t get your player that you wanted or position of need addressed the way you thought?

well grow up. This isn’t a minor rebuild that will be fixed this year alone.

expect this to take up to 3 years! Fun stuff!

Which lent itself to making a Simmons pick...

If you look around the league, most teams are constantly having 2 year turn-overs. Each year there is 40% roster turn-over no matter what. Im no Rhule fan, but his influence has already been felt form - Anderson, Whitehead, XFL TE, WR Roberts. Plus Im sure there will be a army of temple/Baylor players signed as UDFAs.. Just like Anderson they could choose to sign about anywhere and they picked carolina.

He gets a pass this year with 50 million in dead cap(thanks herniay), mass exodus on defensive, and 19 madness. Just like rookies, Im going to wait til the start of the 2nd off-season.

The perfect time to go for it...

Simmons is at a devalued position and he is a guy that will only be elite depending on how he is utilized. Even if all of that were true, he probably would be outside his rookie deal before we are a competitive team. Not a great spot to be in.

Would have been fun to find out...well worth it with 3 yr plan and money to burn...

I think that "3 Year Plan" is likely going to be a joke. We are a team without most pieces, including a QB. That takes a long time to build through the draft. My big fear on Simmons was that he was productive here, had literally little to no impact on wins and losses(not uncommon for a LB) and then he just flat out left in free agency after his rookie deal was up.

Brown is a player that has much higher potential to make an early impact and be a 8-10 year Panther, unlike Simmons.

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
