Another Report: Teams calling Panthers about Curtis Samuel

Here's the thing. What is a 23 year old WR with 600+ yards and 6TD worth? That's at least a 3rd round pick. People aren't "over valuing" Samuel for saying that. It's the truth. I'd like to see the percentage of WR draft 3rd round or later who have at least a 600 yard season. It's probably like 5%.

Samuel has shown potential and supposedly Joe Brady likes him, so it would probably have to be a 2nd for us to consider it.

I'd trade him for an average starting O-Lineman in a heartbeat tbh.

Samuel's age makes him a 2nd round value. A 23 year old with 3 years of semi-productive NFL experience is valuable. I think if they can get a 2nd for Samuel, go ahead and draft Mims. He'll be on a rookie contract for 4 years vs Samuel who is in the last year of his rookie deal. That's a better value.

Then you can still get some value with that additional 2nd round pick. It's a win on the value of the contracts.

This is getting ridiculous. Everyone's listening to offers all the time on every player; that never makes the news. If it repeatedly hits the media that we're not shopping him but we're listening to offers, that means we're definitely shopping him.

Listening to offers from other teams vs calling other teams and seeing what they'd offer for him are two very different things.

Magically getting a future 1st?  You take it and run

A 2nd rounder?  You think long and hard about it

Anything less - - probably hanging up. Worst case scenario if you don't plan on re-signing him, you trade him midseason to a needy team.  The Pats panic traded a 2nd for Sanu, Samuel putting up numbers early on in Brady's system could fetch something fun.

Right, but have you noticed how there are never any reports that say "this team really doesn't need X player anymore and are trying to trade him"? That's because that would drive down his value and piss him off and if they couldn't trade him it would be a huge pain in the ass. "I don't want to sell this thing but boy you wouldn't believe the offers that I'm getting on it" is as transparent as you can get.

Oh I get the advertising aspect of it, and Jourdan Rodrigue is basically working for the Panthers with all the info she gets to release, but I still doubt he gets traded. Samuel is only valuable because of potential and youth for his NFL experience level, not for his production. And he has injury concerns. Panthers will probably just keep him one more year and let him walk.

I think Robby Anderson basically took his job and they want to get something back for him, so they'll probably trade him for something that everyone here is going to completely freak out about. The urgency makes me think they want Mims or Pittman tonight, someone bigger that fills out the receiving group.

Maybe so, but Samuel could still have a role in the offense. But if they're able to get a 2nd or maybe even a 3rd for Samuel, then they draft Mims, I think that's a great move. Samuel only has 1 year left on his rookie deal and you replace him with Mims or someone else on a 4 year rookie deal. Big savings and possibly upgrade the position, and still able to keep that pick.
