Another Report: Teams calling Panthers about Curtis Samuel

I seriously doubt a team is offering up someone worth getting rid of Samuel for.  He is cheap, young and explosive.  I don’t want a mid to late round pick for him.

Granted, Samuel has more value on a team without CMC and Moore.  So teams likely want him.  But I see no reason to deal him.

So instead of the drafting the 7th or 8th best WR to replace Samuels you're going to get the 14th or 15th best WR?

Go watch James Proche before running your mouth. You’re not funny

You are asking too much to have these folks do some critical thinking.

It's more like some people won't admit to the over-the-top hyperbole on how "terrible" they have said Samuel is.  Now there's proof that, not only are other teams calling inquiring about the trade, but the Panthers are unwilling to do a deal unless it's too good to pass up.

Orrrrrrrrrr...

They’re trying to drum up interest and hopefully get someone to bite.

Again... who do you think told Ian this?

Yeah I know, another thread (I created one about another report before the draft), but this seems to be coming up a lot. It will be interesting to see what we do. Posted this morning 15 min ago:

The Panthers have said goodbye to several players from the final years of Ron Rivera’s run as their head coach and other teams are reportedly calling to see if they’ll send another one packing during the draft.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that teams have contacted Carolina about potentially trading for wide receiver Curtis Samuel.

Samuel was a second-round pick in 2017 and is heading into the final year of his rookie deal. He was limited to 22 games over his first two NFL seasons, but appeared in every game last year and posted 54 catches for 627 yards and six touchdowns. He also ran 19 times for 130 yards and a touchdown.

The Panthers signed Robby Anderson, Seth Roberts and Pharoh Cooper as free agents to go with leading receiver D.J. Moore on the wide receiver depth chart.

Only way I would trade away Samuel is for a sure fire CB, the dude would easily have had 1k yrds if not for the under or over throws. I watched every game last year and he got behind the entire defense in at least half of them sometimes more then once. The other thing is he even at his size is a good red zone target because he's tough at the point of catch, let's not make a weaknesses weaker please.

trading samuel would be idiotic.  Hes only getting better

He's worth a lot via trade because he's only 23, the same age as some rookies coming into the league this year, but he's got 3 years of NFL experience. I think he's worth a high 2nd.

What if the Redskins offered the 66th overall pick (2nd pick in 3rd round) straight up for Curtis?

Nooooo!! That's a lost in value.. Curtis was a higher pick that we developed going into his prime..  Why are we getting less for him now??

Exactly...  Why would I take less then what I got him for after I developed him??

Here's the thing. What is a 23 year old WR with 600+ yards and 6TD worth? That's at least a 3rd round pick. People aren't "over valuing" Samuel for saying that. It's the truth. I'd like to see the percentage of WR draft 3rd round or later who have at least a 600 yard season. It's probably like 5%.

Samuel has shown potential and supposedly Joe Brady likes him, so it would probably have to be a 2nd for us to consider it.

I'd trade him for an average starting O-Lineman in a heartbeat tbh.

If someone offers a 3rd or 4th for him

You trade him.

He isnt part of the long term plan and wont be extended we want get a 3rd round comp for him in 2022.

It all depends on whether Carolina already thinks he’s good enough to be extended in 2021. If there is some doubt then you have to listen to the offers.

If Samuels were to walk after the 2020 season as a FA, at best we’d get a 3rd-5th rounder as a compensatory choice (depending on the contract size). If someone were to offer Carolina a 2nd or high 3rd (one of the top 10 choices in the round) then I’d be all for it. You could draft his replacement or use the extra choice to build up the depth on either side of the ball. We have holes all over the roster. In a draft this deep anybody drafted in the 2nd or 3rd should be a major contributor on this team.

Lets be honest, would we that much worse this year without Samuel? I don’t think so. The only reason why I’m a tad worried is that I’m afraid Hurney would blow the pick.   But, Rhule is less than a year removed from College ball. If he’s heavily involved in the draft (and I think he is), then he (and Brady) probably know where to find the top prospects and hidden gems in the 2020 draft.
