They’re not getting #3 without losing the other 2 first rounders and more.

Hence

The "GodFather Deal"

Think theyre putting the multiple 1st next year  (to get 3) on the table to go all in on the franchise QB

The key to winning the SB and having long term success is by first obtaining a franchise QB. A QB you can build a team around, like Tom Brady or Mahomes. When you have a middle of the pack, or lower tier QB, you're unlikely to have sustained success. The reason is because the talent level of an NFL team is always changing from season to season due to FA, the draft, injuries, early retirement, timely retirement, criminal activity, and other factors.

Let's use the Panthers as an example. Let's assign a team talent level of 1 - 5. A 5 being SF last season, and a 1 being the Dolphins. Last years Panthers would be a 2 after some key injuries. The Panthers roster as of now would be a 1. In order for the Panthers to have a great season and possibly make the SB we would need a team talent level of 5 imo. Going from 1 to 5 team talent level takes great drafting for a long time, and once you hit 5 you drop because you can't afford to keep a level 5 team together. It's too expensive. Now you need more home run draft picks, and the draft is uncertain each season to put it mildly.

When you have a Mahomes you don't need a level 5 team to have a great season and be a threat to win the SB. You can do well every single season with a lower team talent level, and when you hit level 4 - 5 with Mahomes you expect the Lombardi. This why you will see me post about drafting Tua. If we hit on Tua then we don't have to wait multiple seasons for a killer roster to start winning. If we stand pat with TB, then we have to have level 5 talent to get excited, and even then a Mahomes team can knock us out of the playoffs with a lesser talent level.

Our team talent level is 1. We have TB at QB, and let's assign him a 3 out of 5 talent level. We're going nowhere fast. Next season will be a massacre. If the Panthers put the odds of Tua developing into an elite QB at 50%, then I say pull the trigger. We can't know the odds, but in our position I am all for drafting a QB who shows potential.

Draft Tua, Herbert, or any QB the Panthers think can be the centerpiece of the team. Take a chance. If he busts then draft another QB.

Would you have traded away Tunsil and Fitzpatrick?  That's also crazy to me.

Tunsil - yes for the return they got.  Two first round picks and a second round pick for a tackle getting ready to make $20 million a year. Miami is not ready to compete, take the group of picks and save the money.

Minkah - Heck no!!!  Talented player on a rookie contract in a position of need.
