REPORT: per Jourdan Rodrigue, there is a high likelihood Panthers attempt to trade back from #7

10. Cleveland

11. NY Jets

12. Las Vegas

14. Tampa Bay

15. Denver

16. Atlanta

18. Miami f/PIT

All of these teams are viable options, there are already reports that Denver and Atlanta want to move up.

My problem with this trade down for Henderson/Lamb theory is that our only really viable partners would be NYJ, TB, and Denver. If we move down to Denver we miss both, if we move down to TB we could also miss both. I don't know that New York really needs to move up either. If they do it would be for Lamb or a tackle.

With Rumors of a OT run potentially starting early.  Miami trying to move up, Bucs try to moce up, etc.

At lesst 3 CBs could be off the board by 11.  Per the point scale value the Jet's 11+68= our 7.

They may try that to Lock kn their LT.  Lamb or a Ruggs would be good for them.  But they could get a stud WR in Rd

If we trade back it needs to be for Henderson or an OT we are sure can start (not a Greg little project).

if we aren’t sure we can net one of those two then we stay put and take a more proven player between brown, Simmons or okudah.

This is true. If (and that's a big if) Panthers trade out of the top-10 tonight he's absolutely a target for CAR

A name I haven't seen many people talking about for the Panthers as an option (especially if they trade down) is CeeDee Lamb. Lamb had 8 for 173 (incl an incredible 71-yard catch-and-run on the opening drive) vs. Baylor last year in the Big 12 Championship. Panthers like him

You don't get it man. This isn't basketball where one player can make such a huge difference. If you want to read the historical analytics/data behind it, I can link you to some good research essays. Of course there are exceptions, but teams that traditionally trade back usually end up doing better than teams that move up. While of course each team has star players, the NFL is not as much of a star-driven league. Yeah, in basketball if you have two stars you can have a great team. In the NFL it doesn't matter if you have the two best players in the league, if you're other 20 starters are bad your team will be dog poo. Where do you find starters? Days one and two. If we move back a few slots we can add a whole extra starter into the fold. Thinking a trade back is a mistake is simply ignoring decades of evidence and data.

Here is a great essay: https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=697121

where did i equate football to basketball? Suggesting that im abdicating for having two great player's and nothing else is a hyperbolic attempt to try and undermine the actual point

The point is simple: the Panthers aren't going to be good next season, certainly not defensively.

You're approaching the draft from this ridiculous checkbox standpount, where you believe that if we can get an extra 3rd here and a 5th there, then we can draft that CB we need, and that DT we need. After all, if you're a good drafting team, you're gonna get 3 or 4 impact players out of each draft, right?

No.

These players people here are so hung up on are JAGs (at best). They're disposable and interchangeable, and by the time rhe Panthers have built a great defense, they will have been replaced by other JAGs.

There's good news though: eventually the Panthers will be good again, and when they are, an additional superstar or two is the difference between the divisional round and the super bowl. Superstars we won't get when were picking, ideally, later in the draft season after season.

The NFL isnt about assembling this comprehensive roster anymore centered around not making mistakes with your QB and outlasting them. Attaining that many players and holding onto them for any meaningful stretch isn't plausible, and even when you can manage to assemble then for a while, you lose in the super bowl to a team that does understand the way the wins have blown: with their elite QB and modest assortment of marquee free agents surrounding him at crucial positions while he is still on his rookie deal. The filler portion of your roster can be attained at any time. The can't miss diamond in the rough 6th round prospects you discovered in your football boredom are almost certainly going to be bad football players.

There's enough smoke going around that it's easy enough to believe the Panthers might want to do it.

But yeah, actually accomplishing it is not a given.

Not to fuel any fires, but for the pro-QB contingent, if we can trade back and still get someone like Kinlaw or Henderson at first pick, what are the thoughts on Jalen Hurts with our second (Or alternatively any acquired second)?

For it. Tough, mobile, accurate. Decision-making isn't perfect but if Brady's system can make that easier than normal, I think he's a great day 2 pick. The worst case is that we've got an above-average backup quarterback and potential trade chip. Quarterbacks get hurt every year. A good backup can save your season.

Whatever is the smart move, the Panthers will do the other.

If we had actually done this correctly, unless the very best OT was sitting there at 7, the smart move would have been to trade back to fill holes all over the roster...but we didn't do that, so who the F knows what the hell we are going to do.

I do worry about Simmons being left out in the cold kinda like Burns is/was....but hopefully if we go that route this coaching staff is smart enough to know what to do with such an unconventional player.  I don't have faith currently.

I wouldn't want to go past Denver at 15.  That's where I feel there's a tier drop and potential picks get more fluid.

I would field calls strictly from Mile High, SF, Vegas, CLE, JAX or stay put.  And we'd have to min. be getting a 2nd/3rd depending on the team.

I doubt #7 does not get some offers.

What might this mean, if true?

1. No Brown, No Simmons, No Tua

2. OT is back in play.

I wanted to make a list all the way to 5, but ran out of thoughts.  tragic.

Actually from some things I’m seeing and reading everyone might be really wrong.

theres a real talk of the tackles dominating the top 5 and 10.

ive said personally I feel Offensive Tackle like Andrew Thomas or Wills would be the absolute best choice we could do for our football team.
