Why aren’t we talking about drafting an OT more?

In the long run Andrew Thomas would be exponentially more valuable than Brown.  Especially when we are a season or so away from trotting a rookie qb out there.  Also its a hell of a lot easier to get defensive talent than it is a pure stud LT which Thomas is.

I would love to have Brown, but I can absolutely understand this line of thinking.

I agree. Remember how Gettleman signed all of those one year deals on the defense during our SB run that worked out? Try doing that with a LT/RT and see what happens. Well, we have seen it and it’s not pretty. Can’t leave out the Matt Kalil disaster. Hard to find good lineman.
I do understand where people are coming  from in regards to our horrible defense and drafting the BPA DT stud that fits a need,  but in order to succeed you have to have an o-line that can block. It would help out the QB, CMC, DJ Moore etc

I am hoping that since Rhule was around the offensive line in his short stint in the nfl that he knows how valuable a good oline is and how hard it is to assemble one.  This is a historic year for tackles so I am holding out hope..........

Since my wife is a Ga bulldog I watched a ton of thomas the past 2 years and he holds his own and then some against some of the best defenses in college.  Not flashy just gets his job done

We are blackhole thin at DL and DB, but i wouldnt be mad if we went for a T. Okung may end up with more health problems or just being old and losing several steps. At corner our only guy is a slot corner playing outside, who apparently doesnt like coaching criticism (no idea if thats true).

Defenses don't just have their best pass-rushers come off the blind side anymore; right tackle is as valuable as the left. If the best offensive tackle available plays on the left side, great. If it's the right side, great. Just shore up the edges.

Okung's presence shouldn't matter at all in this decision. His contract carries no dead weight. He can be traded.

This is why we are getting Fields or TL IMO.  Even if we went all defense this draft (which we wont) it still will not be enough to field even a moderately average unit.  We would be relying on rookies and as things stand now its going to take a lot so that they will even get mini camps in.  Draft an oline and have them a year in for when we have to roll a rookie qb out there.  For Gods sake to throw them out there with a hodge podge of randos on the line.

If we draft Tua we have a stud RT and LT won’t matter much....

Cannot believe this comment did not get more buzz---Moton gets re-signed.  You now can justify moving up for Tua (if that is the plan) and then Little, Okung, etc. are perhaps more effective, not protecting the blind side.

So by drafting a Left handed QB, you automatically make Moton the blind side protector.  Since we were going to re-sign Moton anyway--in all probabilty--you kill 2 birds with one stone--getting a young, veteran blind side T and a QB.

In round 2, grab the CB; round 3 DL; round 4 DL

Agree. Forgot that moton is up for renewal as well. Yeah T is a priority now in my eyes.

Maybe Hurney has too much pride to admit he got fleeced trading up for Greg Little last year.

I think that this (unless the organization really does thing Little can be that guy) plus how completely void of a defense we are right now are the 2 reasons that almost no one is looking at offense. I'm sure Hurney would rather take a thump to the nuts than admit that he blew it on 2 LT's last year.

FWIW, I'm not ready to give up on Little just yet.

I would really like any of the OTs in the Top 15 right now. I very much think it's a huge area of need that we put another band-aid on with Okung. I would be more comfortable drafting an OT if Brown and Simmons are gone when we pick, realizing that next year we could lose both the guys we currently have on top of age concerns if we resign Okung.

Our biggest need is DT. We can get the best in the draft at 7. No need to over think this.

Bigger than CB?

Do you propose drafting based on 2020 needs and not BPA?

Are DTs harder to find than offensive tackles?

Those are the questions we need to be asking---sure, if you only worry about needs right now, DT is one of the need areas.

It would be difficult to argue that Wirfs or Wills is not the best player on the board at a position that is hard to fill at #7.
