Isaiah Simmons

Shocker

I just don't know.  There's such a low success rate on these do-it-all OLBs.  There's always a handful of these athletic 6'2-6'4 types over 220 that fit OLB in 4-3s.  Much of the time, they're not the face of a national champ defense so that's what sets Simmons apart but Terrell, Wilkins, Pinckney, Davis, Wallace, etc. have all been part of things.  I really like Simmons but he gives me pause.

Simmons or Okudah 1 , Kyle Dugger 2, and the top DT in round 3 (Raekwon Davis, Neville Gallimore, James Lynch, Davon Hamilton). Trade back into the 3rd and grab Amik Robertson.

That is 4 day one starters on defense and a huge, much needed injection of talent.

A lot of these "leaks" are a joke, and a desperate attempt to push Simmons down. We have Shaq cover WRs and Simmons is quite a bit faster/more athletic, yet people think he will be picked on in coverage as a safety? Joke.

Shaq: 6’0, 230lbs, 4.64 forty, 33 vert

Peppers: 5’11, 213lbs, 4.49 forty, 36 vert

Simmons:  6’4, 239lbs, 4.39 forty, 39 vert

You aren’t comparing similar athletes.

Best comparisons available?  Perhaps.  But that even moreso emphasizes how much of a freak this dude Simmons is.

I worry less about "is he a linebacker" or "is he a safety." He's good enough in coverage, in rushing the passer, that a good coach is going to be able to move him around and dictate what the offense can do. He's athletic enough to line up in the box and cover a deep zone. He can work from the center of the field and cover the deep sideline. He doesn't just line up in a normal spot and do what's expected of him--that's the point. He can do that, but that would be a waste.

Hey bud I'm not comparing size and everything. I'm comparing how they all came out and said they can play different positions. Then the team can never figure out where to play them. I could care less if a guy can play multiple spots they need to be able to play one spot and do it well. Panthers have never been able to figure out how to play Shaq, that's why he has always been put of position on the field. I don't want another project at 7 when u don't know what position ur going to play him at sorry bud.

One's slow and the other's small. Simmons is neither. He did everything well in college. Simmons isn't a positional tweener because he lacks skills. He's versatile because he can do so much.

I think we're missing the point that he can play different positions. He's not just going to line up against someone. When the other teams OC calls in the play, he won't know where he's going to be lining up, he's just out there. He can sometimes disguise where he's actually playing until right before the snap, that's what his versatility brings. Plus, we can chess move him around against the strengths or weaknesses of other teams. I would take him. 2 good LBs with speed (Shaq) would be a great thing in the middle of the defense. At least to build on.

Opposing OCs aren't gonna be too concerned about our LBs if we don't upgrade our DL.

To be fair, the Panthers always knew how to use Shaq, but TD was already playing that spot.  Last year was the first year Shaq had a chance to show what he is made of, and he played well
