The thing is teams try to mismatch their playmakers against LBs and slot defenders. Simmons will not be a safety. He could be a big nickel for some teams but more likely a Will LB. In that role, no matter who he’s up against, it won’t be a “mismatch” like teams try to gameplan for against the position. It’ll be more likely Julio vs Bradberry 1 on 1 without safety help. Yes Julio will win that battle but that’s not a mismatch where he’s gonna put up 300 and dominate. Sometimes you let guys beat you a bit to shut down the rest of the offense. Simmons will allow you to do that in coverage from the LB or nickel position, especially against teams who feature TEs or RBs as receivers.

 

I like Simmons a lot, prefer him to Brown (would take Okudah and Chase over him but no other non-QB) and would be happy with the pick but I’m kinda leaning towards targeting a QB this draft, ideally Tua. I’m not sure we want to wait for Lawrence.

As a kid in the stands I watched LT throw a OT out of the way and jump over a RB and sack a South Carolina RB.  LT was incredibly awesome.  Amazing how the best NFL player and NBA player came from North Carolina.
