Its one of those personal preferences. I was on one of the "wedding staffs" when I found out that a florist wanted to charge 15,000$ for a 200+/-  person "mid-tier" wedding. I got up and leftd when that was said to our group. It truly blew my mind and after allll that was over I started to ask trusted couples about their wedding choice. I talked with one of bros in nyc, he laughed his ass off and said "we spent over 80 grand for our small wedding." I 100% agree with using that money on a home or to pay off debt, along with a "small" wedding with close family and friends. Wedding prices are in the movie theater concession price bracket. Whatever makes people happiest is important though.  

My wife and mother in law noticed when they were shopping for a cake that the price estimates jumped when they would call it a "wedding" cake.
