I never like to say never, but if a team that just parted ways with Cam Newton over injury concerns were to turn around and take a guy whose body resembles a game of Operation to replace him, I wouldn't have enough hands for all the facepalming I'd be doing.

This after also signing a guy who has suffered pretty much the worst knee injury possible.

The worst non-contact knee injury possible.

I was actually just about to say, between Teddy's injury and Tua we just should rename the team "Hopes and Prayers" because of our QB health situation.

Yes,  he was a prick to people, from what I heard--back when the Chargers were in the super bowl--early to mid 90s---I knew a player for the Chargers (Deems May) who somehow got into a limo with some other players to go to Marino's house---May was injured, so he was having fun.   He got 10 Super Bowl tickets and sold them all for something like $20K and was spending it.  Marino was in the limo.  He said he had never been around a more pompous, foul-mouthed asshole in his life.  He talked down to everyone in the car. That is the only Marino story I have to support your post.

I've heard others.

Can't remember his name, but there was a guy who had grown up idolizing Marino that got drafted into the NFL. When his team went to play the Dolphins, the kid was super excited to meet him and get to play against him.

Then he saw Marino act like a total asshat (basically his usual self) throughout the game. It was so bad that he lost all respect for him.

Never meet your heroes.

Isn't that basically what we were last year?

(not just at the quarterback position though)

Unless your hero was Muhammad Ali. Genuinely one of the most amazing individuals to ever walk the Earth.

Peyton Siva, and his dad (Siva was the PG when Louisville won the Championship in basketball), are also super amazing individuals. When we lost in the Final Four in New Orleans we met Papa Siva wondering around Bourbon Street, and he turned it into one of the most happy sports moments of my life. Fantastic human being.

Gorgui Dieng was also on that team, and was one of the most self-less individuals I've ever had a chance to meet.

Ooo... I could go on. :P

But instead we'd have not have a middle aged QB with an injury history, we'd have a young-ish QB with a concerning injury in his history, and a super young QB with a very concerning injury history.

Oh boy would it just be the bees knees if you have anxiety.

Agreed, it wouldn't make much sense from that perspective (although Tua is only 22).  That said, most on here didn't want to get rid of Cam and still don't approve of that decision.  Last video I saw of him training and throwing the ball around, he looked like a freakin' BEAST.

Replacing Cam with Teddy won't appease this fanbase for long.  Add Tua to the mix and that's a franchise-changer.

Also BTW, Tua is extremely accurate and gets the ball out fast...a much bigger reason that Cam isn't here than the injuries, IMO.

It's one of the things that's bothered me about this team for years.

I know every team in the league goes into each season gambling on at least a few things, but we seem to gamble on more than our share. We end up needing  to hope thatseveral things to go right in order for us to have a good season, and they hardly ever do.

We don't have a franchise QB and one could fall to us at #7.  If the Miami Dolphins think that is a risky pick, so be it...the franchise in Carolina needs some hope, and Tua brings that.  Derrick Brown might be a solid DT, but that player ain't selling tickets, jerseys, making people watch games, nor winning games for us any time soon.

Yeah. That’ll be exciting for all of 2 seasons before we realize we are paying the QB lottery all over again. But I was more dissing your strategy to draft him as trade bait.

A. Trade value for a QB is down. There are still proven starters sitting in FA. One is a former MVP.

2. Draft picks are like cars at a dealership. Their max value is as a pick. When you drive that pick off the lot (draft a player) the value goes down. Especially after a season or two if you don’t find adequate value after the draft.  Look at OJ Howard for example.

3. You just simply don’t pick a player at 7 that isn’t part of your game plan moving forward to try and trade. If he’s the pick, I’ll be excited about it, but if we aren’t sold on him then you don’t take him. Reportedly 3 teams have him off their draft board and you want to take him to trade? What? No chance. If he’s the pick then he’s the plan. If he’s not, don’t dare touch him lol

I feel like this is every single OT or DT we've ever had for as long as I can remember. "If they can just stay healthy..." and they don't.

-Our current starter at QB would currently rank in the bottom 5-7 starters in the league, do you disagree?

-Tua is a consensus Top-7 pick in this DEEP draft, most have him Top-5 even with the concerns...do you disagree?

-At #7 overall, he is both METING OUR #1 NEED as a franchise and also BPA.

I'm not saying pick him to trade him, I'm saying pick him to run this franchise!  But if the phones start ringing when he's on the clock, even better....

Wouldn't hurt our FA chances either, bring your Bama friends and get on the phone with some skill players...

Bridgewater bottom 5-7? I'm not sure I'd go that far, but I would agree that he's in the bottom half.

No, I don't agree that Tua is a consensus top 7 pick, but that's entirely due to the massive injury red flags. Honestly, it wouldn't shock me if some teams have him completely off their draft board due to injury concerns.
