A) Kuechly was a special case and in hind sight obviously worth the top ten pick. He was an impact player.

B) Hoping lightning strikes twice is a foolish gamble.  You can’t just replace Luke with another high pick on a LB and expect the same results.

C) There’s a reason LBs (the non-pass rushing type) have one of the lower average contracts among positions. Even including the pass rushers who get DE money their average is only just barely above RBs and Safeties. Because they have less of an impact and are easier to replace.

D) if we end up with Simmons I’ll hope I’m wrong and we do get lucky again. I just don’t like the gamble. Would rather get a player at a position that is more difficult to find, like a lineman.

Not a fan.  Also, I seriously have to smirk every time I read Simmons=Keuchly.  To say drafting a LB in the top 10 is on par with Keuchly is a bit of a reach wouldn't you say?  By that logic, every player in the top 10 would be future HOFers.  No?  I'm simply using the same logic as some of you....

Him being a Jack of all trades and able to line up everywhere has me the most worried.  If he was a true MLB I might be more on board with this, but he is really a weak side LB in the NFL

It would be insane to spend a top ten pick on a non impact position like LB.  A good DL can make an ok LB look a lot better than a good LB can do for an ok DL.

My thoughts exactly. You only have to go back one season to see what happens when the line sucks and you have an all world LB.

Im not sold at all that a hybrid safety LB is worth our #7 pick. I wouldn’t be mad, he seems talented enough to contribute, but I feel like there might be better options.

Folks have pulled up video after video after video of Brown in an attempt to shoot holes in his game.  Have these folks pulled up Simmons videos?  No. Why?  Combine performances are the end-all, be-all of talent evaluation.  In their eyes, what else is there to see?

If you look at Simmons highlights for last year, he was sent on delayed blitzes or Clemson had overload blitzes where he had either one or NO man to beat.  Is Snow going to blitz as much as Venables?  If not, then Simmons is going to have to read and react, which is NOT his strong suit.  The 3 INTs? Every one of them hit Simmons between the numbers.  I'll give him credit on undercutting one route for the pick.  The other two were horrible passes by the QB, essentially getting rid of the ball.

I see Vic Beasley v. 2.0 written all over Simmons.  He'll have early success until teams get a sense of how he's used, but after that, his productivity will fade.

One damn thing that Marty Hurney is actually good at is drafting linebackers.

No one is saying that Simmons is the next Kuechly. There’s a big void at MLB whether you want to believe it or not. Whitehead isn’t going to cut it. Whitehead will be our 2020 version of James Anderson. Making a lot of tackles for no reason.

Yup, first round ILBs who are the QBs of the defense.  Morgan, ILB.  Beason, ILB.  Kuechly, ILB.  Shaq...the precursor to Simmons has been the least productive of the bunch.  What was Shaq?  A Rover S/LB, just like Simmons.  Davis?  The same and it took him years to finally play like a true LB.  TD looked to be a bust for the first few seasons.  Oh, TD and Shaq weren't taken in the top 10 either.  TD and Derwin James (Chargers) were both taken mid-round where you can start looking for hybrid players in the back 7.
