I like Blacklock and early on I felt like he’d be a great get in the 2nd (still do) BUT damn would it be tough seeing us pass up on Diggs/Fulton if this mock played out

The second round is filled with so much talent, I literally am just guessing at this point for some of the picks. It will get crazy.

I hear you. I’m sure there will be some angry people if we trade up given the amount of holes we have but you can find legit talent in the 2nd this year. I’m sure it’ll be tough to find teams that are willing to trade out of the second but if you can move up I’d like to see them do it.

We could potentially walk away with 3 day 1 starters this draft if they play their cards right. That’s huge.

I like the second round pick (Blacklock) because I think there is a good chance that one of the "second round" CBs  (there are about 7-8 of them) slips into the third.  Dantzler for example.   I am guessing that Rhule has some degree of knowledge about Blacklock.

I can say that my favorite round 2-3 DT is Jordan Elliott, but I get the Blacklock love.  He is probably rated about a half-round higher than Elliott.  Elliott (and Blacklock) would be excellent rotational players to push KK (up or out).

In addition, we probably have CBs Elliott and Cockrell on speed dial.

Final thought:  we have been looking at some small school, Undrafted CB talent---not sure what they see there....

Man, I hope you got this right Verge.  Simmons, Blacklock and Robertson.  Heck yeah!

If you are taking Brown's combine numbers into consideration for his evaluation and value, you are doing it wrong.

Not really, measurables help you predict a players ability to transition.

Also people aren't looking at his combine or measureables and saying he is going to be a bad pro.  Everyone expects him to be great.  Probably the safest pick in the top 10.

His measurables don't mean he is going to be bad, but to expect him to be like Suh or Donald is a bit of a stretch.

Suh, Donald, and Brown were all dominate in college, extremely dominate.  That doesn't guarantee they all will develop in the pros in the the same way.

A lot of people on this board want to draft him because they expect him to be like Donald or Suh when in reality the more likely projection is probably more like Christian Wilkins from Clemson last year, or somewhere in the middle.

Couple of things that stood out to me in your 2nd round.  Chinn at 33 ahead of McKinney?  Wow!  Also, what happened to Gallimore dropping to #62?  I see Barch's stock went back up making into the 2nd round.

2 excellent questions (45--you are often on the money--do you have a WCU connection, perchance--45 Hoover?)

I am not interfering with Verge, but I can say that I had the same thought.  Then I had all these secondary thoughts--the ones that usually get me in trouble.

1. Remember Robert Lester?   I had him going on day 2.  I think he went undrafted or something and never was a great pro.  How good are the DBs at Bama when you have so many studs up front and behind you?  It would be hard to tell, really.

2. Chinn was a ball hawk at SIU, and he has the size and speed to play multiple positions.  His tape did not drop off vs. the big boys.  He is an incredible athlete.

3.  I have heard that Gallimore was dropping---do not know why.  In Jan, I had him in the late first round.

Based on roster, ECU88 7rd mock draft:

1) Isaiah Simmons, LB/Playmaker/JOAT

Easy pick if he is there. Speed, instincts, freak of nature, gamechanger on defense. The new face of the defense. Him and Shaq will be a great LB dou like Luke and TD were.

2) Cesar Ruiz, C/G

Our futute C, will start at G.

3) Leki Fotu, NT

Mountain of a man, strong, pocket pusher. This guy will let Simmons shine and stay clean.

4) Terrell Burgess, S/CB

Ball skills, heavy hitter and I do not trust TJ Green to even play due to off/on talks of retirement in his past. Has played both positions which gives depth flexibility.

5) Khalil Davis, DT

Speed, explosiveness and knows how to get skinny for getting to the QB. Not a great run stopper, rotational piece for KK Short and be his student.

5) Reggie Robinson II, CB/S

Instinctive, ball skills, and can tackle. Sleeper pick. Has played both positions.

6) Danny Pinter, OL

Atheltic, depth, develop player type.

7) Dezmon Patmon, WR

Tall, speed, needs better hands and use his size better, develop player type.

    • We can't afford to reach for one of the first round QBs this year. I would love for nothing more than Bryce to be the reason we don't even scout the bastards
