7. Panthers: Isaiah Simmons, LB, CLE
I think this is going to be a very tough choice between Simmons and Brown here if we don't trade down. Simmons is the ultimate modern defensive football player, a super mutant with a bottomless tool bag, can cover WRs or play sideline to sideline as a S/LB hybrid. Rhule is looking for all these things in a player, so the fit makes total sense. Just a matter if you want to plug the DT hole here to pass over on a guy like Simmons. Final Grade: 97/100

...

9. Jaguars: Derick Brown, DT, AUB
The Jaguars sit pat and land one of the best players in the draft. I could definitely see a trade down here, but it is a bit hard to resist when a Suh clone with high character marks is sitting in your lap. A true game wrecker with a huge motor, he will fit right in to that line that will wreak havoc across the AFC south. Final Grade: 97/100

Sounds great to me!

Another idiot who never watched a full game of the player he's commenting on.

Dude shut up.. only you are expecting more. Are you a draft scout? You could watch a guy put together a submarine that doesn't mean you know what your looking at. Watching him bullrush from your couch doesn't make him a defensive end. The guy isn't know for his superb quickness, he's not a great athlete, but he's strong. Accept him for that.

Gettleman continues to tip his hand.  Based on his comments from an interview I posted yesterday and now this, he wants an OT but knows #4 is too high and he surely will get at least one if not trading down outside of the top 10.

What does this mean?  He's not infatuated with Simmons like some folks here are.  By trading down he will surely miss out on Brown.  Apparently he's okay with that too.  Gettleman wants his OL Hog Molly, so if he can get one by trading back AND getting some more draft capital, it's a win-win for him.

Overall, not bad at all, except for the Dolphins.  My opinion, all 3 of their picks should be different. They should not trade up, take Tua over Herbert, Jones over Jackson, and Swift over Taylor. Actually, they should skip RB all together in the first round, with 4 good prospects and two second round picks

Without a DL, Simmons nor Okudah are going to do much. Luke is probably the best LB I've ever seen and he didn't matter last year. Neither did Bobby Wagner. If the over/under on Simmons is Luke or Wagner, I'd take the under and feel pretty good about it.

Exactly! Guards/centers are going to plow through our defensive line making Simmons/Okudah’s job near impossible in run defense with a giant lineman in their way. If we take Simmons I just hope the next couple picks are dedicated to the defensive line (mainly DT).

People assuming Simmons is just going to 'do his thing' in our horrible defense is delusional.  This is the NFL, it's E-A-S-Y to scheme around one guy, especially in the back 7.  If our DL allows a QB time to make his reads, Simmons will not make much of an impact at all.

Let's look at his number when Clemson wasn't playing scrub teams:

Texas A&M: 6 combined tackles and 1 pass defended.  No other stats.

Ohio St.: 4 combined tackles and 1 INT.  No other stats.

LSU: 7 combined tackles, (2 tackles for loss with a sack) and 2 defended passes.

This is what he's facing in the NFL, not Wofford, UNCC, Syracuse or Wake Forest.

@Verge what have you heard or what are your thoughts on Matt Hennessy?

I read something that Rhule is pretty high on him...combine that with Hurney's tendency to reach - could we see him as our second round pick?

I see him around the 3rd/4th round. Could be a pick for us.

    • We can't afford to reach for one of the first round QBs this year. I would love for nothing more than Bryce to be the reason we don't even scout the bastards
