BS: Smokescreens and Liar's Poker: Post "fishy" news here

With but 1 week remaining before the draft, be very careful of what you read about other teams (and our own).  Today, in PFT, the news was released about Miami showing mad interest in their QB choice, Justin Herbert. (exaggeration, but is it?)

Is this valid?  Well, it was on the internet, so it must be true.  We live in an era where people use the internet and social media to get others to buy things, believe things, and vote for things that are basically fictitious.  It is the age of the con man, and in no other arena might this approach be more evident than the week before the draft.  It is easy for the gullible fans--already locked in on their emotional choices, but for a GM, the game is high stakes.

For months (even during the season) we heard that Miami was "tanking for Tua."  Then Burrow emerged from nowhere and the Dolphins ripped through the NFL, winning 5 games unexpectedly.  Most experts seemed to think that Tua was still in play in Miami; with Young and Okudah slated to go to the #2 and #3 picks, respectively.  Whispers hear and there about Herbert, but nothing substantial, until "LIAR'S WEEK."

Here is the link:  https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2020/04/16/dolphins-have-done-plenty-of-work-on-justin-herbert/

Their reasons make sense, but these statements are not news.  Why now?

Keep your eyes open for potential draft week propaganda.  Might this be to get a team to trade ahead of the Dolphins to grab Herbert?  Why is this information suddenly coming to light now?  Who reported it?  How did they learn it? etc.  These are questions we should ask as responsible consumers of actual news.

So maybe this thread can be for suspicious rumors and articles that find their ways into the media this week.  Post them here.  We can analyze their legitimacy, and hopefully find out how valid they were by the end of the month.  Yes, this is Panther related because it could impact trades before them in the draft.

I think the Justin Herbert hype is a myth.

I especially think that after watching this video breaking down his film.

He would be a good decoy in a high stakes game--if a team trades up and takes Herbert, then they do not have to trade up (in theory) to take Tua--saving themselves a second rounder.  On the other hand, there is a lot to like about Herbert's size and skill set....

I've seen a mock with Tua dropping to #8 going to the Vegas Raiders.

If our team has to choose between Tua and Brown you've got to know Tua's a Panther.

The marketing and jersey sales would be huge AND he looks to be the next Drew Brees.

To clarify Drew was one of my favorite players BEFORE he landed with the Aints.

On the ringer nfl podcast there was some pretty in depth discussion about Tua doing a free fall.

It came out last night that Howie is in love with CeeDee Lamb and the Eagles are looking to trade up to get him.

The Eagles would need to trade with us as I believe the Cardinals could still take Lamb even after the Hopkins addition.

The Eagles have pick 21 and 54 I believe. Even with them including next years 1st I’m not sure that does enough for me. I’m all for moving back in the draft but not for these two picks. 54 is too far down.

Whenever there's a major injury issue or a major off-field issue, just throw the predictions out the window. Especially with injuries this year considering the lack of ability for teams to conduct their own medical exams. I've been saying for a long time that Tua is the biggest wildcard in this draft. I could see a ton of teams medically red flagging him, but it only takes one team to think otherwise.

I had heard that same thing.  Sorta like when we drafted Moore, everyone just assumes Jeudy is the #1 WR---CeeDee is pretty dang good and may fit the NFL better.
