I agree, and I was excited to read his rankings. I wasn't to upset about Herbert over Tua, though I disagree, there is an injury to factor in.  I still believe Okudah is higher than 13. The one that got me was Taylor 13, yes 13 spots in front of Swift. I believe they are close in their ability to carry the football, but Swift is a better receiver from the backfield, better at picking up blitzes when staying in to block, and he doesn't have the fumble issues that Taylor has.

Swift also got to run behind the best OL in college football, so there's that to consider as well.

I really can't comment on the RBs in this draft though. With us having CMC onboard, I've paid virtually no attention to them.

I hear you about not worrying with them because of McCaffrey.

Swift did have a good line, but did play in the best conference too. Here is an interesting note on Swift, Georgia always has a good line, Swift finished with a higher YPC than any Georgia running back, and Georgia has a nice history in the NFL with running backs.

While Herbert has top notch physical tools, he is not a good QB.  His accuracy is inconsistent, he doesn't have great touch, his decision making is also very inconsistent, and the biggest issue is that he really struggles when under pressure (I'm talking situational more than physical from the defense...even though he struggles when facing pressure as well).

When he makes a mistake, or his team needs him to make a play or carry the team, he flounders...often badly.  He's the antithesis of the cool as a cucumber QB's that become Super Bowl hero's.

That's one of the most glaring issues for me, the second Herbert hears footsteps he folds. For an elite QB prospect he sure can't handle any type of pressure.

DEEP:

"His grandfather on his mother's side played at Oregon. Herbert is very smart. If you're wondering how important football is to Herbert, I asked Oregon coach Mario Cristobal that question on Sirius XM NFL Radio, and Cristobal said football is very important to Herbert. He could be the best quarterback in this class, but he needs better leadership skills."

I'm surprised he's willing to share piercing insights like these with the general public. He's probably be a billionaire if he just auctioned this stuff to the highest-bidding GM.

Morgan isn’t even as good as Grier.  Pass.

Ouch.  Morgan has potential, but no way I would take him that high.  Rumor is the Pats have an eye on him if they don't land a QB any earlier.  Worse than Greir....wow.  In a few years we may look back and debate who was worse between him and Clausen.

I don't understand this obsession with Herbert, every Oregon game I watched he seemed pedestrian to me. Other than fitting the prototypical QB mold there isn't anything about his game that stood out.

Because nothing gets prospects overdrafted as much as ideal physical measurables and no position gets overdrafted like quarterback.

Jamarcus Russell went #1 overall and his stats were pretty pedestrian, but he could throw a football over them mountains. He wasn't even in the top 10 of Heisman votes. Oh wait, all of this also applies to Justin Herbert.

He's either capable of a lot more than he was able to show at Oregon or he's Blaine Gabbert version 2.0.

    • It will be interesting to see who is still available at #4.  There could be a player someone drastically needs and will be willing to give up a nice haul to get him.  Getting an extra round one pick in 2026 would be nice.
    • First of all, I think we should fix as many areas as possible other than QB going into 2025.  Young has played well the 2nd half of the season and needs more evaluation.   I think DL should be our focus whether it is Graham or Carter with our 1st pick. I wouldn't be sad if we used our 2nd round pick on another D-Lineman.  It will be much easier to get a WR on a one- or two-year free agent contract than to pick a WR that could be JAG.  This also gives XL and Coker another year to develop.  Our free agent picks in 2024 for the D-Line were, IMO, designed to complement Brown.  Once Brown went out those players were mediocre.  We need to have insurance in case Brown comes back and doesn't perform to his pre-injury play.  Sadly, I think we should move on from Evero.  He doesn't seem to have the heart for this team.
