I'll give that draft a solid...meh.

i have a feeling that we may all be giving this draft a solid meh, when it' all said and done. I admit that I haven't gotten very involved in draft research or mocks this season, but I have a hunch that Rhule is going to draft a bunch of players that we all question but ultimately end up being good, especially if we trade back. There are several players at 7 that would satisfy most fans, even though we all have our favorites. After that, it's a crap shoot. We can only guess at Rhule's mentality and we have too many holes for me to form a plan.

If you knew how many bad athletes we drafted you wouldn't say so. So I don't know what your talking about.  Its your kind of thinking that lead to raiders drafting farrell at 4.

Armanti Edwards?  Everette Brown?  Any of this ringing a bell?

Josh Norris, IIRC, is a Panthers fan (I often get he, Jeremiah and Matt Harmon mixed up), so of the draft analysts, he is in touch with our true needs.

Personally, I think Elliott can be had in the 3rd and would prefer a more talented CB1 in round 2. Whomever falls to us of Terrell/Fulton/Diggs/Igbinoghene/Johnson/Gladney/Arnette, and then grab Elliott in the 3rd.

I also think that there will be a more talented DT in round two than Elliott.... Gallimore, Madubuike, or Davidson if we were to go DT in R2.

I like Hall, but agree that it would be a godsend for him to be there at that pick.

Overall, I love the direction and selections.

Let's be real though..... zero Baylor draftees is not happening.

Those were stupid picks. Edwards was a Qb converted to a wr project... brown also was an undersized 3-4  linebacker forced to play as a 4-3 end. He most certainly wasn't a good athlete either. Guy ran a 4.73 at 256 pounds. Thes guys were also picked after the 1st round. Hurney trading up and giving up 1st round picks made them look worse.Screenshot_20200416-153209_Chrome.thumb.jpg.6495675f435dee24f9ef558522ccb163.jpg

What I’m not understanding from most mocks or “armchair GMs” is the fact that ONE draft isn’t going to save this team. If we are rebuilding/retooling it’s going to take a few seasons of calculated moves. If we were to go predominantly defense like this mock then I’d be appalled. It should be a good mix because we still have June 1st cuts to work and next season and the season after. Super Bowls happen every year and we’ve waited long enough for one 2 or 3 more years of setting the team up for success won’t hurt. Look at the 49ers and how long it took them to rework their team and now they are legit a WB and maybe WR away from getting another. If they would’ve matched up against anyone but KC in the SB I feel they would’ve won. I couldn’t see many teams outside of NO competing with that offense unfortunately.

That's why I don't think we will be going into the draft just looking to fill holes.  But I do think they will focus predominantly on defense because while we still have areas to improve on offense, we are at least fairly solid across the board there.

With that said, if the right offensive guy is there for us, I don't think they would hesitate to take him.  For instance, if Tua drops to us, and they feel confident that he will overcome the hip, I could easily see them pulling the trigger on him...of course, if they don't trust his health, they could pass on him for a defender.  The same goes for if a top WR or OL unexpectedly drops to us in the 2nd.  And while I really don't think they will go OT or WR at #7, I don't believe it's out of the question, assuming they have the player rated significantly higher than any defensive player that would be available.

Bottom line, I think the team goes BPA as much as possible, but leaning defense if the players are comparably rated.

I would be excited if this were to happen. When your drafting this high a QB should almost be a consideration.. But my fear with that, is we draft Tua (in this situation) and red shirt him for the season then next year we are picking top 2 because we have so many holes we have a shot at Lawrence.. than what do you do?

If his hip holds up, I would be absolutely thrilled with Tua.  I think, when healthy, Tua, Burrow, and Lawrence (with Fields not far behind) all have very similar potential and will be legitimate franchise QB's.  And all of them would fit Brady's offense perfectly, so getting any one of them would be dream.

With that said, lets say we do take Tua and sit him a year, but end up picking in the top two next year, we would be in the catbird's seat.  We would be able to decide who we like better and which one we think will be the best fit, and then either trade the pick or Tua for a massive haul.  In fact. this is probably the dream scenario since we get our franchise QB while being able to stock up with top level talent from the picks we would receive.

Of course that's just a fantasy.  I really don't think Tua will be there at #7, and if he was, I think he would see the field at some point this season and likely pull out a couple of games (or Teddy will be playing well enough to keep him on the bench, also likely pulling out a handful of games), taking us out of contention for a top 2 pick.

If you rate Lawrence higher you draft him and trade Tua.

The 40' for a DE isn't what you look at..

3 cone, 20 yards shuttle short area quickness...,  Broad and Vertical jump tells explosiveness and bench for strength.

Understood... but its a good indicator of overall ability

During the vast scouting process for the NFL draft, team decision-makers use the results as a measure of an athlete's true speed. These scouts want to see explosion, burst and speed—both in a short area (10 yards from a still start) and over a long distance (40 yards).
