He and Colbert came out of USC during an era when USC was producing bust WRs like the state of Florida produces oranges. I don't know why that was, but there were a TON of bust WRs coming out of USC for awhile.

But were they bad picks?? Why did guys with that much talent fail.. Was it Pete Carroll??

It's the 'dynasty effect'.   USC was a juggernaut during this era.  Riches of talent everywhere.  This is why I am leery of Alabama and Clemson prospects.  When you have 5-star players throughout the team, then yes, players are going to  put up crazy numbers.

I'm more impressed with players that put up great stats on lesser teams.

Maybe you're right.. That USC team was fuging stacked... Would you make that pick?? Can you blame Hurney for making that pick??

Yes, they were bad picks. If a guy fails for any reason other than injury or off-field issues that had no previous red flags then he was a bad pick.

And this is where disagree.. Why they failed had nothing to do with something we could have seen in the draft process.. As prospects both were rated where we pick them and had value where we picked them... They weren't bad picks because the talent and the film wasn't there..

I loved the pick at draft time. He wasnt ready for the NFL and the league only waits so long til you get "it". He never got "it" and got passed by a new  group.

to further dis credit myself, I also loved the pickles pick at draft time.

Example.. Did you think Aaron Curry coming out of Wake would be a bad pick??

He had the physical and mental attributes you want and his college production.. Showed nothing but a perfect LB avatar...

No, but he was. Ultimately, you're judged on how the pick works out not on how he was graded as a prospect. At the end of the day, the ultimate judge of a GM is wins and losses. It doesn't matter if you draft poorly as long as you still win. No one is going to claim that Belichick is the world's greatest drafter, but they win year in and year out.
