That would be so weird. I imagine it would be a weird dynamic for players also. You have to think some enthusiasm and energy from the teams will suffer without the adrenaline from the all the fans.

It won't be easy or painless but it's possible. I'm not sure if the athletes will want to or what would happen if/when someone test positive. RR raised that flag and I can't see a way around it. Then again if grocery store employees do it for near minimum wage I would think people would risk it for millions in a year.

They have a few months to come up with a plan. No way it includes people in the stands this year and who knows moving forward.

The sticking point is whether the league can get every team to commit to quarantine for potentially 7 months. I have a hard time seeing that happening and even if teams commit I have a hard time seeing every single player and whoever lives with sticking with it. Literally one player can screw this up.

I get the point of the “stay at home” orders for now. Everyone is trying to flatten the curve at this point, as to not overtax our medical resources. However, what is the point of quarantining the teams in a hotel, and for how long would those quarantines be in place? At what point do we go back to life in America/the world?

That is a LOT of people that have to be quarantined. It's not just players. It's all the support staff, coaching staffs, refs, etc., etc. It's honestly really not that feasible.

I think this is a scenario if the virus hasn't been totally snuffed out, but life has returned to near normal levels where many restrictions have been lifted.  Obviously one of the last restrictions to be lifted will be on mass gatherings.  This idea is somewhere between where we are now and complete normalcy.

The last UFC event held without fans featured a lot of terrible fights. Most felt like heavy sparring sessions. Prior to that event I would've said the crowd made minimal difference. After that event I have to admit that I think the athletes definitely feed off of the crowd's energy a lot more than I had assumed. That dynamic might not be quite as pronounced in a team sport though.
