It’s looking more likely that NFL season will be cancelled.

Come on man. No one wants that. I also don’t want people to go hungry or for people to be thrown into a cycle of poverty. Have you read about the huge lines at food banks around the country? Let’s do what we can to prevent death while understanding the virus isn’t going away anytime soon. Waiting it out isn’t possible.

any competent government response would mitigate the food lines problem. this is the WEEKLY quarantine care package in SK, per person.

South Korea's Quarantine Care Package Is Making Americans Jealous ...

but no i guess the only way to keep people from starving is just throwing them back into the meat grinder.

and don't mention money to me. there's currently a 7 trillion dollar wide hole of burning money in wall street that keeps getting bigger.

Those boxes are only for those in self quarantine due to having the virus or being exposed. Those are not delivered to every man woman and child.

What is this 7 trillion you speak of?

Considering all experts say this virus will be around at least a year, is it your opinion that we should all stay locked down until next spring?

Even that is massively more than anything the united states is doing. the US creates enough food to to feed itself twice over. delivering food parcels would be trivial.

7 trillion is the amount of money the Fed is pouring into the economy to prop up the stock market, because boomer 401ks are more important than people literally starving.

there are a million things that need to happen, and its far more complicated than "open up or don't."

millions of americans were in such a precarious position before this that now they're running out of food. and this is going to get worse. much worse.

the answer to these problems isn't rushing back in to an economic system that created such inequalities.

The answer was and is going about this the way Sweden has done (with very low numbers).  You quarantine those that are of high risk and allow the rest if society ti create herd immunity.

unkess yiu are going to quarantine until a vaccine is created (and mandated to be taken), you will not change the ultimate outcome.  Quarantining the way we are only flattens their curve (or spreads it out).  It will not reduce the area under the curve. The only benefit is to minimize the huge spike (and not overload the healthcare system) and to buy time for a cure.  Outside the vaccine, the same number if people will be infected and same hunger will die whether we stay closed or not.

people stanning for an economic system that requires them to risk their lives to keep it going

maybe learn a lesson here i dunno

What alternative might you suggest?  You can't snap your fingers and have food and goods appear out of nowhere.  People have to produce commodities and services.  People can only do this through some form of incentive, and that incentive can only come about from... you guessed it... people producing commodities and services...

I can't fathom what other economic system you can suggest that would help us in our current situation.  Surely you are not suggesting socialism, because even socialism and communism require workers.

What you're really suggesting is that a select few workers put their lives on the line to supply food and goods to the rest of a cowardly population that demands they be sustained for free by the labor of others.

Wrong.  I don't even know where to start.  If it weren't for the actions of the federal reserve our entire society would be burning to the ground right now.  The actions of the fed have absolutely nothing to do with propping up markets.  They're propping up the economy as we know it.

Would you prefer we let the airline industry collapse?  Guess you've never need to fly anywhere.  How about the banks?  Should we just let our lending institutions go belly up?  If so, don't complain when little things like "cars" and "homes" become something that only millionaires can afford.  Ignorance at its finest.

Stop parroting the talking points of high schoolers.  For the record, I'm a millennial, so you can take the "boomer" comment somewhere else.  My 401k has done just fine through all this because I manage it myself.  The simple fact is we live in a nation of cowards who have been beaten into submission by a media that gets paid for clicks.  Rather than practice good hygiene and common sense social distancing, some would rather society grind to a halt and then pretend like they knew something no one else did in regard to the way our economy operates.  There are roughly 18.5 million millionaires in the US. That's tops in the world, by far.  Full stop, no debate. No nation has ever harnessed the power of the free market to create wealth and prosperity for the individual like the US.  We define equality.

I really think people WANT to see the virus succeed because they can't figure out why they haven't achieved success in the most prosperous, fair, equal society the world has ever known, or ever will know.

Then re open everything business as usual and let the virus runs its course. OR another plan. Have those that are high risk of dying self quarantine. Set guidelines, for those over age of 70  and with the following health conditions, stay home

Should have done this from the get go..most of the people that make these decisions are.in the at risk category.to tell.the truth...

Add a 12 pack of an edible beer to that in lieu of the 2 cans of spam and I'm in.

Fair point, but just keep in mind, if we stay locked down for 18 months, you will NOT be working remotely.  You won't be working at all.  No one will.  You'll be standing in breadlines while our civilization is gasping for it's final breaths.

I never said stay locked up for 18 months...Mind you I don’t consider sheltering in place with my loved ones as ‘locked up’.
