CMC extension was a great move

Just cause he gets production doesn’t mean it’s actually helping the team. Just like Julio these past couple of seasons Mccaffrey got a ton and I mean a ton of garbage time yards.

And we don’t know what the future holds at the RB position

a ton of garbage time yards?  are you defining the entire season as garbage time, because that's the only way to justify that comment. I mean, he got a ton of yards, period.  and if you look at his splits, CMC was overall most productive with the score within 7 points.  not garbage time.  And if you look at his splits by quarter it is even more telling - take a look yourself:

Given CMC's highest level of production was in the 3rd quarter, which really is crunch time, I'd say he had the opposite of garbage time stats, no?  hell the 4th was overall his worst.

Not trying to be a dick but are the terms of this deal out yet?  I cannot find how this is structured.

Not yet, the most I've seen is speculation that since it's an extension, that he will finish out his rookie contract, then the new contract will kick in.  Perhaps with some bonus money added early.  But without the actual details, it's still speculation, but IMO, reasonable speculation.

To me though, the terms don't really matter.  If you don't look at the position and focus solely on his production, he's very much worthy of the deal.  Heck, if you average his total cap figure over the entire 6 year deal it is really only 12.5 million per year...definitely not as eye popping as looking at the new numbers only.

The biggest reason not to pay a RB a big second contract is because they tend to wear out and have a relatively high injury rate (which is the reason most of the recent deals haven't panned out).  But there are a couple of things with CMC that makes this different than most RB deals.  First of all, he is known for how he maintains his body, which is essential for players to stay healthy (in contrast, Smitty said on NFLN yesterday while talking about Fuller in Houston that you can't count on him because he is still trying to figure out how to take care of his body to limit injuries.  CMC already has that down).  Second, CMC does a very good job of avoiding big hits and the type of punishment that wears a body down quickly.  Thirdly, he's still young.  His body still has the resiliency of youth, and he hasn't been worn down yet.  So, I don't see the same pitfalls you have seen with other recent RB deals.

So, I do think this is a good deal, particularly due to his combination of productivity (both as a runner and receiver), youth, health, and ability to avoid damage.  Not to mention that with the new CBA, we're about to see a big boost to player salaries, and in a couple of years, this deal will look like a steal compared to what the top RB's will be making.

We think that, we don't know that.  Marty bet on this one time in the past, and the cap didn't move...burned us.

With the economy short circuiting, fans not wanting to gather in large groups, Disney and all of the stations losing money like crazy during this, and not really knowing when the country will get back to being able to spend $200+ on a football game.....that cap may not jump like most imagine.

Every expert is pretty certain it will.  The players are getting a much bigger piece of the pie, and that will trickle down into player contracts.

every team in the league wishes they could have CMC on the team.

Of course most teams would like to have CMC on their team BUT at what cost?

Rookie deal? Of course.

This extension? Not every team, nope.

We are sitting near or at very top when it comes to dead money and we’re basically throwing away this year to try and get out from under it.

If you’ve been paying any attention to the direction of this league in terms of running backs and are still on cloud nine about this extension... yikes

Show me that info since the world stopped?

I'm not sitting here saying it won't, but to rationalize this move by talking about the cap going up, I just don't buy.

The TV money is why everyone "knew" the cap was going up, but that was before the unthinkable....I heard today that Disney was losing about 30M per day during this, and they were supposed to be a MAJOR player in the next TV deals....I have no idea how much Fox, CBS, NBC, etc....have lost.

Now they may be perfectly fine, and things pick up where they left off, but I seriously doubt that.

Oh come on!  Yes, the world is turned upside down right now, but it will get back to normalcy at some point.  This year may be a wash, but the wheel will spin again, and people will be willing to spend for their entertainment again.  TV deals will get done, fans will show back up to games, and players will get paid.  Some things might change, but nothing that will significantly effect entertainment (which is the category professional sports falls into) long term.

Sure, many of the big companies are hemorrhaging money right now, but once things open back up, people will come out in droves after being cooped up so long, and much of those losses will be mitigated.  And what they can't make up, will be absorbed and passed on to the consumer...us.  But the consumers will still consume anyway.  There will be football, and everything will return to normal...albeit probably a bit more expensive, but people will still pay.
