This fanbase leaves me scratching my head a lot of times.  There's not a single reason I could think of that would make this a bad decision.  CMC just came off an amazing year in which he was in the running for offensive MVP.  He isn't just a RB, but a very capable WR which will help extend his playing time.  We lost 2 of our franchise players this season in Cam and Luke.  CMC is now in the spotlight and I couldn't think of another player more deserving.  

I get that a lot of you think we should've played hardball, but that's not the right thing to do in this instance.  We want CMC to enjoy it here and hope he has a Hall of Fame career.  You guys playing hardball would be the same ones upset when CMC decides to play for another team that values his production more.  

Point is, CMC has proven himself to be a top runningback/wr and has the potential to be  a hall of fame player.  He is worth every penny from this extension and even if something were to derail his career, it's a move you have to make time and time again.  Players like this don't just show up every year.  Maybe some of you were drinking some of that Koolaid from the mock draft where some braindead analyst said CMC was worth a mid 1st round pick?

This team is going to be the 2020 Browns, unless Teddy can do a solid and play absolutely terrible next year. We're not getting a QB anytime soon. There's around 7-10 quaterbacks in the NFL at any given time that can take over a game, and push your team to a win. If you don't have one of those guys then you're going to need an elite defense with several elite offensive pieces that can score at will. The teams built like that win about once in a decade, and then fall apart as they can't pay that many men. However, if you have one of those 7-10 quarterbacks you can always go on a Super Bowl run.

The Panthers aren't going to get that guy next year with the moves their making. I'm predicting the Panthers are going to be the Browns of 2020, and already are mirroring some of there biggest mistakes that got them where they are today.

We're not making the moves that I would make. We don't have a QB who we can win the SB with imo, so until that changes we're just spinning our wheels. We'd have to build an elite defense and offense around Teddy to drag him to the SB, and we're rock bottom talent wise right now. We'd have to wait several seasons and have multiple home-run drafts to get to middle of the pack. This is not what I want. I want an elite QB so we don't have to build an all time great defense to have a shot at advancing in the playoffs.

The plan appears to be that we crawl our way slowly to middle of the pack, and then slowly try to build an elite team talent wise. My plan would be to draft the best QB prospect available and hope to hit a home run with him. You land an elite QB in this league and you don't need a crazy talented team to win the SB, or go on a playoff run. An elite QB on a hot streak can take you anywhere.

To your point on Superbowl winning QBs the last 20 years, let's look. Mostly it's Brady, Peyton and Big Ben....but also Foles, Eli, and Flacco. So sure, a well balanced Patriots team (Brady didn't carry any of those teams, he had a solid unit around him) won MOST of the Superbowls, and some elites got their first or second ever within the last decade...but Dilfer, Brad Johnson, Foles, Eli and Flacco also got a ring because they were on great teams

 

The trend starting now was that arguably the league's best QB won the Super Bowl. When the chips were down, the "good to average" QB couldn't carry his team but the elite QB did.

This is a QB driven league, if you don't believe me, just simply look at the draft. Watch the run on QB's and watch the RB's not get drafted. If you want to look at the numbers of first round QB's versus first round RB's over the last decade, you will see the same. Especially with top 10 picks. You can make the same argument with WR's. 

RB's being devalued as a position isn't a new thing, it has been going on for almost 15 years now. There isn't a shift towards RB's over QB's. That is literally absurd.

The move I would make?  Nope.

But hardly any of the moves that the Panthers have made would be the way that I would do it.

May as well just roll with the punches at this point and try to make the best of it.
