Its not a question if he is worth it its an argument that this is unnecessary as he is under contract for 2 more years

If they did it right, his signing bonus and guaranteed money are over the next 4 years, counting his two remaining on rookie deal. Really comes out as a 6 year deal worth 75-80 million. New money is what counts and that's the 64 million. Overall guaranteed will be his 5th year options, signing bonus and guaranteed salary in year 1 and 2.

yeah this is something to consider for the “actually mccaffrey is a wr2 and a running back.” is there a wr2 in the league who depends on catches at or behind the LOS the way that mccaffrey does?

it’s time for tepper to stop pretending that the organization values analytics. the analytics move is to trade him and get a chunk of the same production on significantly less money plus draft capital

When I heard this was an extension the first thing I thought about was....

If we draft our stud QB in 2021, what year will he come OFF his rookie deal? Pretty sure it would be the same time CMac’s deal is ending. That is why I don’t mind this deal. Our rookie QB will get his top weapon at his prime surrounding him. CMac’s following contract will then be brought down or he’ll look for a new team as his value diminishes. But what we just did is exactly what Rivera never did with Cam. Ensure whoever we bring on has the ultimate weapon in his prime to take advantage of.

Mike Florio:

Panthers wisely reward Christian McCaffrey, the new face of the franchise

With Cam Newton gone and Luke Kuechly retired, Christian McCaffrey has become the face of the Panthers. He’s also now the wallet.

McCaffrey’s record-setting contract, given to him after only three NFL seasons, represents one of the smartest moves that the Panthers have made under new owner David Tepper. McCaffrey would not have shown up for anything without a new deal, and the Panthers have avoided that complication in coach Matt Rhule’s first season by paying him.

I am glad we extended McCaffrey because now he will not feel like he has to be gunning for 1000 yds rushing and 1000 yds receiving since he is already making top money. This will allow the coaching staff to limit or pick his playing time without breaking his competive spirit or causing ill will.

If u think this is a bad deal ur crazy and not looking at the deal. It's an extension of 4 yrs added to two years he is still owed so it's really 6 years for 75 mil. That's 12.5 mil a year for a top rb/top wr. Wow I tell you the people on this site don't know anything about football.

About a 0% chance, a few insiders reported he would hold out. Again Zeke just did this WITH one year AND 5th year option still there. Once the Cowboys signed him, it changes the league business.

Zeke and JJ is a completely different circumstance. JJ caved completely instead of letting zeke sit on the bench not getting paid at all. I don’t for a second believe CMC would have sat this year, demanded a trade ya. Sit, no.

4+ years is how long we could have had him with tags. If he didn’t want to play he could have sat at home without a paycheck. CMC doesn’t strike me as that kinda guy. Especially when you watched Zeke this past season, walking off the field whenever he wanted. Hurney got fleeced, again. Seriously, someone make sure he has no part in this team ever again.

He is not going to be a 1000/1000 guy for the next 6 years.  He is due for an injury and the way we fed him the ball this past season just bit us in the ass.  No running back ever plays up to their second deal.  Godalmighty hurney never learns

Fug your stupid.
