CMC signs extension

“goes 5-11”

”RB has record-breaking season at only 23 and helps us win the only games we did win”

” loses every other household talent name on the roster

”pays RB”

”you don’t win games like this”

we weren’t winning many games to start with, but what else are we supposed to do?  CMC was the main reason we won some of those games.  Texans, for one.  That sexy ass catch on 3rd or 4th down.  Our team is so much worse without CMC.  I love the deal and haters can suck it

I mean, you can try and justify it any way you want to. It doesn't change the fact that paying running backs hasn't generated many positive results(on field or in terms of overall success) in recent years, the running backs CMC is "most" like didn't lead their teams to much Super Bowl success, and that RB has generally been devalued as a position in the last 10-15 years in the NFL.

For all of CMC's successes so far, it has been for one winning team, the season he started the fewest games and had the least production.

The point of saying all this isn't to disparage CMC. He is an amazing player. He just happens to be an amazing player at a position that has been dramatically devalued in the current NFL. We can't even count many career examples of him putting the team on his back and carrying us to victories. In fact his average total yardage  in losses has been far higher than in victories for us.

In Wins: 99.9 Total YPG AVG(62.3 Rushing, 37.6 Receiving)

In Losses: 125.8 Total YPG AVG(59.5 Rushing, 66.3 Receiving)

I am not sure how much better data you need to prove my point.

what exactly are we even arguing lol, if you're just trying to say there's reason to be skeptical over the extension, then i don't disagree. it'd be delusional to pretend that there isn't. i'm simply saying i believe it's a good deal, we're only paying 1 mil more than we would've for bradberry, and CMC isn't like these other RBs who have gotten big deals. both LT and faulk remained productive until they were in their 30s, and this contract expires before then. also regarding those stats, are those over his entire career? i believe its a little unfair to include his rookie year in those numbers, because CMC was the #2 back and we all know how ron is over his veterans. not to mention we have the cap space, and multiple star RBs are also due for contract somewhat soon.

To be fair, there weren't a lot of viable choices.

I don't necessarily think we were looking for a viable choice. Tepper already knew the total house cleaning was coming. He just needed a guy willing to wear the title for a few weeks and have those losses attached to his name.

Does trading away a player you know is good in favor of putting draft picks in the hands of Marty Hurney honestly sound like a good plan to you?

does loading up around teddy bridgewater and not only handing the running back the highest salary for the position ever but also guaranteeing "well over half of it" despite the fact that he was still under team control for two more years sound like a good plan to you?

love this "hurney is an idiot until he does something i like then he's actually correct" thing you've got going on mr scot

If CMC makes the pro bowl this year his 5th year would be the same as a franchise tag. We wouldn’t save any money with the 5th year

value of the franchise tag for running backs this year was $12.5 million and it wouldn't reach his AAV next year so yeah, franchise tag would save money vs the extension. you could argue that they're hedging against him being declared a WR for the purpose of the tag but even then the price difference doesn't forgive the longterm financial commitment. it's a dumb contract.

He is not going to be a 1000/1000 guy for the next 6 years.  He is due for an injury and the way we fed him the ball this past season just bit us in the ass.  No running back ever plays up to their second deal.  Godalmighty hurney never learns

You really are an idiot.

pretty stupid. even with one of the greatest single season efforts ever our offense was horrible. and we are a worse team now than we were last season without turner, olsen, cam, luke, bradberry, reid, etc on the team. just gonna become a white barry sanders.

feel bad for the guy but at least he got paid. hurney is a joke.
