rivera is a moron. offer him mccaffrey for the 2nd pick straight up and see what he says. trading mccaffrey just to move up 5 spots seems like a waste but if you could walk away with 2 top 7 picks? hard to pass that up

I'd probably then call Cincy and dangle them #2 and #7 for Burrow at #1. That would be getting raked over the coals per the chart, but I think that's what it would take and getting a #2 overall pick for a RB is raking someone else over the coals in the process.

Nothing trumps a franchise QB. We're not going anywhere with Teddy. I'm just willing to admit that.

Even if you add Young + Simmons or Young + Brown, our D still takes a step back from last season and it was already terrible. Young isn't going to be better as a rookie than Addison was last year. Simmons isn't going to be better than Luke was last year. Brown would probably be the biggest upgrade, but we still lost the best player from every level of our defense.

FYI, Barnwell updated the trade after news of the McCaffrey extension. I think the alternative is something we'd probably have to consider if both Simmons and Okudah are off the board and/or we are really high on Kinlaw.

Trade with San Francisco 49ers

Panthers get: 1-13, 1-31
49ers get: 1-7, 4-113

This column originally included a Christian McCaffrey trade, but with the Panthers signing their star running back to a four-year, $64-million deal Monday afternoon, let's include a different deal. Most people expect the 49ers to trade down and amass extra draft picks, and I have a couple of deals in this mock where they do just that, but this is an organization which falls in love with certain players, perceived value be damned. General manager John Lynch might very well look at his roster, remember he was a play or two away from winning the Super Bowl in 2020, and choose to go all-in for a guy who might be able to make an immediate impact.

Who would that player be? I could see an option on both side of the ball. On defense, the 49ers have clearly prioritized stocking up their defensive line. After trading away DeForest Buckner to the Colts, they could try to replace him on the interior by moving up to grab Derrick Brown. On the other hand, with Emmanuel Sanders leaving for New Orleans, I wonder if the 49ers would try to move ahead of the Jaguars and Jets to make a splash for their favorite wideout in this year's class, which would likely be Jerry Jeudy or CeeDee Lamb.

It all really comes down to how high you are on who is available at 7.  I won't pretend to be a scout. I am generally OK with a player like Simmons, Brown, Okudah, or one of the top OTs at 7, and I don't really have strong opinions on who might be available at 13.  So I can't put an actual value on these things to determine if picking up the 31st overall pick is worth dropping 7 spots.  Philosophically, I'm on board with moving down a bit and accumulating extra high picks.

This is more in line with what the people who want Kinlaw would do.   The problem is, what if you do this and Kinlaw is gone.  Maybe a good LT is there?  I think I would rather go K'Lavon Chaisson if he is there.
