How do I get rid of moles?  Destroying my yard which looks terrible now.

Easiest way I have found is to get rid of their food source....worms, grubs, etc....

You can use Bifen Granules spread on your yard and watered in, over time this will either kill or force the worms and grubs to another yard (someone else's problem), and the moles will follow.

You can also trap/kill them with mole traps, but I have found them to be hit or miss with my size yard.  Poison worms, water, all kinds of stuff out there, but granules put out on a regular schedule seems to work best.

That said, you will be killing worms and grubs, and they can do good stuff for your yard, but IMO, moles are way worse.

Do you have any pets? My yard was lousy with squirrels, voles, chipmunks, etc. until I got a dog. He marks all over the yard, which has cut down on their impact on the yard significantly. The birds still DGAF, so I have to put netting over my edible plants.

We have two dogs but they won’t do anything but bark their aces off.  The way I found out what was eating my yard was the neighborhood cat.  Pulled one of these out of the ground and ate it in one move.  Damn.  Anyway looks like I need to kill the earthworms (in abundance) and go from there.  Thanks

Bad year for moles and the grub worms are as fat and juicy as I've seen them in years. Gotta attack the grubs.

I would suggest aerating or punching your lawn and aggressively treating the grub issue. The moles will disappear and once they're gone, the dogs will stop digging holes everywhere.

Aren't they probably voles?

Possibly, but voles tend to be more vegetarian, thriving on bulbs and root systems and will destroy a garden. That's not to say they won't feast on a carcass, they will, but moles will not usually eat plant roots, bulbs, etc. Moles will eat earthworms, grub worms and other ground invertebrates.

Are there any guys on here that are obsessed with lawn care? I’m new to this and would like to get some tips.

-Get a soil test.
-Throw down pre-emergents when the time is right. Probably too late now for crab grass.

- fertilize During every major holiday 4-5x a year

- learn how to cut your grass properly.
-aerate and over seed before thanksgiving.

it’s a battle and takes time if your yard is in bad shape

I’ve put down fertilizer 2x so far and has been trying to kill my weeds. Downloaded the Scott Lawn app and was going to keep up with it. But, a buddy I know told me to leave it alone until the fall.

Well, I was planning to go with Scott’s since I downloaded the my lawn app. Like i said, buddy told me to just leave my lawn alone until fall and he’ll help me on it. Told me to just keep cutting my grass tall for now

The trick with the weeds is you gotta get those fugers before they start. Just based on what you are telling me, your buddy is probably right. Maybe grab a bag of the seasonal weed and feed from Lowe’s and just cut your grass right. Start thinking ahead for the fall.

Yes, I agree with him. That window to start treating your lawn if u live in Charlotte is closing quickly. Cutting your grass high is the right thing to do.
