Self-Analysis:

Round 1: Without trading, it was Brown or any OT.  It was tough passing on the OTs, but most mocks are awkward if you do not take Brown.

I was happy to find Queen in round 2. I wanted to go OC or CB, but Ruiz was gone and the LBs of this caliber are gone after Queen. I decided that the CB depth would cause a good one to fall.  Shaq will play the Will and Queen the Mike in most cases.  We will usually be in nickel.

Round 3 was a bit late to go CB, but after Dantzler, the talent drops off rather suddenly.  My gamble in round 2 was successful, to a degree.

Round 4: C Biadasz was a steal in round 4.  Patting myself on the back for that one.

Round 5:  With free agency, I was not sure a WR was in the cards, but I think we are going to throw it a lot and want 4-5 stallions.  For a fifth rounder, Tyler Johnson is a great value.

Round 5 again:  Stone is a S with good special teams abilities and depth.  I have seen him going as high as the third round in a mock or two.  I like his skill set for what I think we will do.

Round 6:  Herrot is an OT with good pass blocking skills.  He lacks strength to run block effectively.  A season or two in the weight room could make him a gem.  Good, needed depth at least.

Round 7:  I had no intention of double dipping at WR, but Victor was too good to pass up.  He was not that productive, but he flashed.  Sometimes, the system is the reason you flashed, not the player.  I am guessing that he will make the team and could flourish in Brady's system.

I just couldn't finish it.  Truly, I gave it a shot, but it is awwwwweful.  Chinn was still available at the end of round 5 and it was saying my best option in round 4 was Hawaii's QB.  I tried 3 trades...all shot down.  I went slightly aggressive-->completely fair-->taking a bath.  Even when I was losing about 100 points, I got shot down and all of them were from teams contacting me to move up.  I realize it is new, but they really have to work on it.  The concept is a little different than others, which is cool, but maybe next year they will have their rankings squared away and use a value chart so the trades make sense.  No way a team eager to move up and makes out like a bandit on a value chart declines to go forward with the trade.  Literally, the last trade I tried to get hosed and still was declined.

Yeah it is pretty bad now that I have wasted time on it.  PFF is really average to bad overall.

The more I look at Epenesa and Lynch the more I'm kinda convinced they're basically the same guy.

Player A:

6'5" 275 with 34.5" arms. 5.04 40 time, 17 reps, 32.5" vertical, 117" broad jump, 7.34 3 cone, 4.46 20 yard shuttle.

101 tackles, 36 TFLs, 26.5 sacks in three seasons.

Player B:

6'4" 289 with 32" arms. 5.01 40 times, 23 reps, 29" vertical, 111" broad jump, 7.39 3 cone, 4.39 20 yard shuttle.

100 tackles, 30 TFLs, 20 sacks in three seasons.

I think they're both probably three techs and/or five techs in the NFL and Lynch is probably the better immediate fit in that role at the moment since he's carrying an additional 15 pounds. Lynch is a little heavier and a little stronger, Epenesa is a little longer and a little more explosive. But overall, they're pretty damn comparable.

LB DAVID WOODWARD

Drafting an OT early keeps me from taking a corner early.  No way I'm waiting until 3rd round or later for my first DT selection.

I like the Willis draft for one reason.  If and it is a big if Little works out at LT he can play RT in case we don't resign Moton.  If Moton is resign he can flip to LT and Willis play RT, or you can try Willis at LT.

DT and CB are the biggest needs imo.  Picking an OT at 7 makes it hard to get a starter at both those positioms

    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
