Would you take #18, #26, and a 5th for #7?

Gman said, to his credit, that big men let you compete.

This is true.  If you go for the fast, flashy toys, you get little out of them because each play falls apart due to the lines not holding their own.

Simmons is someone I might consider outside of Brown at 7, but not the CB.

Best and only trade down for me would be switching our 1st and 2nd round picks for 12 and 19 with the Raiders.

Pick up Kinlaw or Brown at 12

Pick up Thomas at 19

We are not going to the Super Bowl next season, so lets get our anchors in place and shop for flashy toys later.  Plus, I like the idea of our 3rd rounder being WR Claypool who is a different type of receiver that would round out our corps.

After that, we are just hoping for things.  Cannot do it all in one year, so building from the inside out would be my approach.

Your Tiger King plan is bananas, so no to those players. Maybe one.

But would definitely trade down. Especially if we can get 2 firsts plus.  I wouldn't even mind if one of those firsts was for next year.

I'd do 18 and 26. That right there is a total game changer, hitting on 2 1sts would put us in the playoff picture.

I don't see anybody in the top ten that is groundbreaking compared to the rest of the draft, It's inevitable we need a CB and I think a trade down like this might do it.

If Tua is there at 7, I think we trade back, I doubt people jump high for Herbert.

The issue with teams trading 2 1sts for "their guy" is they will be trying to do it pick 1-6.

I'd rather not drop out of the top 15 in this draft, so something involving the Raiders picks looks more enticing.

That said, I am not automatically opposed to it.  If the draft unfolds as the pundits think it will, I'd stick to wanting to stay in the top 15.  But, it is not uncommon for one or more teams to turn the pundits predictions on their ears (not so much which team picked which player, but which players are still available).  This draft is very deep in some positions, and let's face it: we need help at a lot of positions.

It sort of depends who did what by the time our phone rings with the offer almost as much as what that offer is.

If we spend both of those picks on Defense, that is 2/11 holes filled with the way Hurney hits in the 1st round. 1 person is not fixing that defense.

We have the WRs, Superstar RB, Improved o-line with modern playcalling to win...

We resolve DB and LB/DL... We have a 9-7 10-6 team. Isiah Simmons is the only superstar player I see in the top 10, but we have Shaq playing the MLB spot, it'd be a waste of a pick on a OLB.

We are not that much worse then the Saints and Bucs on offense... Our WR core is LEGIT, we have CMC... We NEED to get as many picks as possible to fix this defense.

I don’t trust Hurney with picks after the “no-brainers” are off the board.  It is then when he tends to fall in love with a stretch, and we wind up with people who can’t contribute or are too big of a project in the position drafted to provide us any short-term help.  That is my reluctance to fall out of about the top 15.

I also am less concerned about winning this year.  If Rhule is going to work out, it is going to be because of his ability to get a team to play above their apparent talent level, very unlike what we are accustomed to seeing.  I am willing to wait for that talent level on both sides of the ball to hit critical mass and be a consistent threat.  To that end, I don’t see the defense being fixed this year. The cupboard has been left too bare for me to think we can be anything beyond "better than last year" which would not take much.

I agree with you, I think our WR corps is better than I have seen it here in a long time, but with a word of caution: I have thought that before and been disappointed.  My biggest offensive concern is the OL.  Some of that will be mitigated by a “quick-hit” style, but even then, the OL has to be good enough to minimize passes blocked, batted down, and deflected at the line.  I need to see that before I am willing to give them a check mark.

Again, I am not opposed to trading down for more picks.  But it is going to depend on who remains on the board when the phone rings, and what the person on the other end of the phone is putting on the table. If the phone does ring, I hope whoever is calling the shots tells Hurney to hand the call to Rhule before committing to anything.

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
