It's Derrick Brown, right?

The team already has a pass rushing DT. They need a run stopper that commands double teams. Star and KK were a perfect combination. KK and McCoy is what we had last season. They don't compliment each other as well as we'd hoped. Brown would fill the missing piece - unless the team is planning to get rid of KK soon.

That role just isn't worth a top ten pick. Star had the production in college to be more than that and the athletic testing that showed that role was his floor. Brown doesn't even have that.

Just for a comparison.  Simmons was on a considerably better Tigers defense too.

Vic Beasley, Clemson, 2015: Pulled off an absurd sweep, ranking top-five among his year’s position group in all six drills (Watt’s workout is considered epic for nearly doing this), with his bench total #4 among all LBs ever. Von Miller had a similar workout.

Brown is not a Generational talent. He ran a damn 5.1 and has limited upside as a pass rusher. A generational talent is a freak and has the upside to do anything at the position. Simmons is something we have never seen before. He has the ability to play saftey and compares favorably to derwin james and Jaylen ramsey but is faster than both. Line him up where ever hes a difference maker. Brown is a bull rushing nose. thats what he does and does it well but hes not a generational talent and he wasnt better than Quinnen williams. what are you talking about.

So talent is just a Freak? So why wasnt the big freak WR from Ole Miss top 10.

Yes I said better than Quinnen, and im not talking about it.  The OL who faced Both were talking about it

But that role actually is .. Because as been posted before.. The clearest sign of defensive success is still run defense...

In an era with less and less emphasis on rushing, when passing early and often is clearly emphasis of this organization, I don't think the front office sees it that way.

Even a pass happy team will run the ball down your throat if they are able with a lead in the second half of the game.  If they can hand the ball off at will with success, why risk getting the QB sacked (potentially hurt) or risk an INT?

In this era.. Yes still the clearest sign of successful defense is run defense... You can fall in love with all this passing stuff you see.. But constantly teams that can run the ball and stop the run make the playoffs... 49ers, Seattle, Titans  big examples last year

I got stuck watching Herbert. I really don't see what people see in this guy. Unless he was really held back by that offensive scheme and is capable of a lot more than that offense asked of him, he's a bust waiting to happen. They virtually never asked him to drop back and actually go through a progression. Virtually every pass is either a one read quick hitter or a half field read with a rollout.

@LinvilleGorge you need to post the study on how run defense affect a team again.. Ppl just don't understand why that is still the 1st thing you want to be able to do as  a defense ..

Oh and I agree I have no clue other then physical appearance why ppl like Herbert..

All the tangibles: height, weight, good athlete and a good arm.  He lacks the 'it' factor though.  Herbert will be an adequate starter or a bust, but I just don't see him being a stud QB.

Yeah, the physical tools I see. I just don't see his game translating unless like I said, he's capable of a whole lot more than that Oregon offense asked of him. Most 1st round bust QBs had the physical tools.
