Retooling amidst COVID and draft strategy

As much as the NFL wants to push there will be a season, I'm betting if there is one it will be abbreviated.  What if it even comes down to there not being one?  What then?  Do the contracts get bumped back a year?  Will we still have the 2020 draft class for the same amount of time under contract?

Let's presume that the odds are there won't be a season.  What do the players we draft this month mean to us this year and years to come down the road?

Considering this, what if we sought to trade as many picks away this year for picks next year?  Trade down and trade out of the this year as much as possible and stock pile picks for next year when there might actually be a season that will mean something.  We won't have to worry about losing a lost year on a drafted player.  If there is no season, the idle time could mean drafted players getting out of shape or in trouble.

What are the pros and cons to this thinking you could see?

If no college season is played, next years draft will be a crapshoot out of maybe the top 5

Agreed, but fwiw we would be in a great position because of matt rhules knowledge of the players in that class.  He would honestly probably have a better grasp on college talent in that case than almost all NFL coaches, would be a blessing in disguise.  That said, I think well have a full nfl, and an abbreviated college with maybe no fans

The biggest issue football has is the sheer number of people required to conduct a game, even without fans present. You're talking about probably 200+ people.

Yeah, I heard a nfl guy say you can’t guarantee the hotels will be there to host teams. What if there is an outbreak on a team. Does the team play? How long do they not play? What happens to those games?

Whats going on with college football? I heard they may be thinking about moving it to the spring? I wonder what that looks like?

Yep.  I just don't see football happening in 2020.  So the question I have still remain.  How does no football or abbreviated season affect years of service?  And would it not be better to hedge that bet by trading out of any picks we can getting more picks for next year.

I could see the NFL putting all teams in a lottery.  Dallas would somehow end up with number 1 pick

I could see them doing something like the NBA, a lottery for the non playoff teams from last year and then a lottery amongst playoff teams for those draft spots too.  Maybe even a lottery for each round too would make sense
