Matt Rhule interview

NAS

It's clear that Rhule is the captain of this ship at this point. What I don't like is the he seems very willing to take credit for popular moves and shuck the blame off to others for less popular moves. That's the kind of "leadership" that people see through pretty damn quickly.

To be perfectly honest, I think that's more of a problem for other teams than us. Worth noting that prior to his release, he had been working out at team facilities, so they'd have had plenty of time to take a look at him.

And as far as evaluations, other teams may not be able to give him a physical, but we did. He passed it.

Twenty four hours later, he was gone.

I thought his physical was given by private doctors?

Darin Gantt's take on Rhule's discussion of Newton...

Quote

“We felt in the end, the best thing for the team was to sort of move forward,” Rhule said on a Zoom call with local reporters. “I have no doubt he will play well. We just felt it was the best thing for us moving forward.”

That suggests that it wasn’t as much a concern about Newton’s injuries, as Newton’s coming off foot surgery and shoulder problems the year before, as much as a new coach wanting to start fresh with a guy he didn’t pick.

Rhule was careful not to compare Newton to his replacement Teddy Bridgewater, other than to point out Bridgewater’s familiarity with new offensive coordinator Joe Brady.

Rhule apparently just didn’t want it to be in Carolina.

Matt Rhule: Best thing for Panthers to “move forward” from Cam Newton

Gantt has made it pretty plain in past tweets that David Tepper isn't exactly his favorite person. It's starting to sound like Matt Rhule isn't all that high on his list either.

(well...depending on which list we're talking about)

Trying to place some of the people in this pic...

Obviously, top row fourth square is Rhule. Top row, second from left, is that Person (not sure)? First two in the bottom row are Rodrigue and Getzenberg and two over is (I think) Mick Mixon.

No way to know who the two guys behind the cameras are. The one above Getzenberg might be Gantt but it looks more like Alan Ruck from "Ferris Buehler's Day Off".

I'm honestly more intrigued about Walker than I am Bridgewater.

I'm not.

I know everybody is intrigued by his potential and all but how many of these "shine in a lesser league" guys have we seen come in and show why they weren't playing in the NFL? (Craig, Gilbert, etc)

Best of luck to him but I've watched this movie before so I'll believe it when I see it.

Rhule's saying all the right things from a PR/PC perspective but what he's doing here is eliminating distractions.

Rhule's foremost coaching mentor is Tom Coughlin and they share a disdain for distractions and lack of discipline.

(note his comment about creating "a serious football place"...)

I don’t see distractions, everyone buys into a coach until they prove them otherwise, same thing happen to chip kelly.

Tom got ran out of Jacksonville and was on the cusp of getting ran out of ny before Eli went super sayian. We will see how this translates into long term success

To me, it's a known commodity vs. an unknown commodity. Bridgewater is an average at best starting QB. He'll be as good as the team is that's around him. Walker is a total wildcard.

What I learned from Matt Rhule's video conference: 1. The Panthers felt Teddy Bridgewater was a better fit than Cam Newton; 2. Christian McCaffrey, if an extension can be reached, will do great things in Joe Brady's offense; 3. Rhule is comfortable with Tahir Whitehead or Shaq Thompson at middle linebacker because the Panthers will play a lot of nickel in the pass-happy NFC South; 4. Rhule has plenty to keep him busy in addition to the draft managing three kids with online classes.
