I don't have an issue with any of this but why not release Cam soon after firing Rivera? Why play coy games?

I think they were trying to trade him after Ron was let go.  That rumor has been around for a while and it makes sense why they would keep him until the last possible minute before the released him.   It's a cold cutthroat business in the NFL.

If that is so why put his health into question before trade time? If they were trying to trade him it should have been "Cam is strong and ready to go", instead.

Bungled any way you look at it. We saw it coming why couldn't they see it.

Everybody would have understood had Cam been released after Rivera because the team leaked to the media they were moving on months ago.

Should be HONEST in dealings. Cam should have been released MONTHS ago instead of all the drama and the spiteful timing of it all. Had Cam been released he could have met with any team BEFORE free agency.

Tepper didn't allow him to do that. Dirty business indeed.

Is it safe to assume that the draft will be handled by Marty, but the decisions will be Rhule's.  He has made comments that lead me to believe he was behind the free agency signings too.  It seems Marty will be doing the contracts and possibly engineering trades, but the players Rhule wants seem to be what we are getting.  Not sure how it was before, but I am under the impression that Rhule knows what he wants and will get it.

This is no different than it was with Rivera and Fox before him. GMs have coaches and scouts to do all the legwork. GMs get too much blame or credit based on how things turn out but honestly their job is not to get the guys they personally wants but rather get who the coaches say they need to run their system.

We do not know what was really going on behind the scenes.  My guess the truth lies somewhere in the middle between what each side is saying.  Both sides share the blame in all this.   I was hoping for a celebration of Cam's accomplishments and parade when it was over but it is what it is.

“They should have said Cam is healthy and strong.”

A few lines down- - “Be honest.”

Its time for your to sit down and stop posting for a while.

Aggrieved prim adonna Cam fans who continue to ripp the Panthers have the option of withholding their funds and reapplying those funds to his new team if/when Cam signs with another team.

That seems like the only path to happiness.

When the decision is made to move on from Cam, and I think that was made by Tepper a long time ago, the cleanest way is a really nice sendoff, while cutting said player....

However, that's not what's best for the team.  Trading Cam and getting something, anything, is better than outright release, but then it get's messy as people start to figure out what you are doing.  Reporters ask questions, you have to skirt the truth, say things that have tons of qualifiers, and generally refer to the players health....this is what has made this seem so messy.

The biggest issue here?  Nobody wanted to trade for Cam when they have no idea if he is healthy, and I'm betting almost every GM knew that we were going to be going in a different direction.

We had a perfect storm of events taking place to really make this move tougher than it should have been.  Cam delaying surgery so nobody could tell if he was healthy.  Cam entering the last year of his deal and because the contract was so well structured, we had very little dead money on the last year of his deal...this created a LOT of buzz.  Covid 19, Cam couldn't travel to teams to work him out....that was really bad timing.  And last, we got a new coach, and more importantly a new owner, and he was more than ready to put his stamp on the team after seeing just how bad a shape the team was really in.

Perfect storm for Cam to still be unemployed, the Panthers to tarnish an all time great player for us, and for us to get nothing in return for a former NFL MVP QB.

This is a train wreck. Cam had basically been on the way to being checked out healthy and Teddy has yet to prove he can make it a full season, throw more than 14 touchdowns while throwing less than 12 picks...

meanwhile “he’s a better fit”, gets hitched for 3 years for the same money that Cam would have cost. Teddy hasn’t played a full season of football under center in years... but he’s signed to the same money but more guaranteed than Cam?

train wreck.

This.

To be fair, couldn't we say the same thing of a lot of games we've won over the last several years?

The Panthers have forever been known as a defensive team. That's how every head coach we've had wanted it.

Gano's NYG is a good example. Everyone remembers Gano's long FG, but I think we also recovered a muffed punt in the endzone.

The qustion is : do you see our team, as constructed, winning those types of games next year? Or are we now more built like the NO teams of old that had to win through their offense. Can Teddy win when thrust into that role when he's never been asked to do that? Even in Minnesota, it was an Adrian Peterson run first type of offense. I hope Teddy exceeds my expectations, but projecting his success from NO to Carolina is dubious.

I just can't really comment on Love. Like 99% of people, I've never seen Utah State play a single game ever.

FYI, ESPNU is showing Utah State's bowl game vs. Kent State this Saturday at 9:30 pm eastern.  So, if you want to see Love, that would be a good opportunity.
