Marty Hurney Conference Call

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

I remember Jimmy Johnson (at that time, coaching the Dolphins) saying that when teams called to say they were offering you "a fair deal" it really meant "I'm gonna try and screw ya, but I don't want you to know it". Someone asked him if he'd be willing to trade with Jerry Jones, to which he replied "I'd give him a very fair deal".

Also recall the first year Gettleman was in charge of drafting someone called us offering a second for our next year's first. Gettleman responded that you'd have to be brain dead to take an offer like that. My guess at the time was the other team might have thought we'd take it because they were used to us being suckers.

Okung for Trai was a great deal for the Panthers.  Trai is so overrated its not funny and we get out of next years cap hit.

This trade reminds me of the one Hurney did a few years ago when he traded Daryl Worley for Torrey Smith. Everyone was killing him for it but ultimately we got the better of the deal. Let's hope the Okung trade is similar.

Even accepting that premise, do you wanna try and argue that Marty isn't a self-promoter?

Dude, what?

No one is trying to argue anything in regard to him being a self-promoter, or whatever.  But you have a tendency of describing things in a way that aren't accurate.  Someone who just read your post would be mislead into thinking Hurney said that to try and hype himself up.  He wasn't.  He said it to explain why it was such a difficult decision for him.  You trying to twist it back on me doesn't change that.  Like... clearly.

i think no matter what he says it’s pretty obvious that cam wasn’t happy with his departure, and neither was olsen for that matter

it just goes to show that the initial reason that ppl used to justify hurney being brought back- that he is more forward and direct and respects the players on a personal level - was completely wrong if well meaning at best and a half assed logical explanation at worst

it’s too bad nobody here will line up to admit that they were wrong though since this board is full of feckless, capricious assholes :^)

Riiiight.

Quick Question on that front: Remember when Marty was hired to "find our next GM"?

Who was it he ended up "finding" again?

(but I'm sure that had nothing to do with self-promotion either, right?)

Marty Hurney inadvertently broke a little news, it appears - told us on our conference call earlier today that he believed the Panthers would be holding their virtual war room from their homes (among other scenarios discussed).

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell just informed clubs in a memo that club facilities will remain closed indefinitely and the league will conduct a “fully virtual” draft, with club personnel separately located in their homes.
