What do we really have?

A middling team hovering around .500.  A random wildcard loss is best we can expect for many years to come.  This team is toast.  Tear it down, pack it up, put it away.

The Panthers are the wrestler already in the ring after a commercial break.  Next guy thru those curtains is kicking the poo out of us.

And Sharty Hurney is your only hope for a better outcome.  LOL!

This draft will be vital in regards to where we'll be after some of these 1 - 2yr rental deals are up. We need more than a home run in the first; we need to land on at least half of our 2020 draft class to set the team up for a quick turn around. Three would be just fine, two would slow things down, and one would suck (if we land zero, burn it all down).

Yeah, maybe.  There was a time I could name the roster plus practice squad and the staff without hesitation.  Slowly I’ve stopped enjoying it.  You guys have fun. This team just isn’t mine anymore.

Gotcha, so they'll be your team when they're good again.

Once the offensive line is established I think the Panthers offense is going to be one of the most exciting, unique, and productive offenses in the NFL.  Lot of screens to Samuel/CMC and others, lots of players playing multiple positions, its going to be a blur with defenses trying to catch up and guess what we're doing.  Joe Brady and the Panthers are going to get the same attention that Sean McVay and the Rams got a few years as being "innovative" and "edgy".  We're going to be that team.  And Brady will be a Head Coach within 3-5 years.

That’s a very idealistic view of the personnel. Did you really watch the OL? We got 0 push up the middle. Look at the other teams against us. Washington was the 2nd worst team in the league and they just punched the ball right into the end zone against us.

You’d like to blame the coaching but if you can’t run up the middle front the 1 yard line because your OL can’t move the DL at all, your play calling won’t matter. You saw us running gimmicky plays because the OL couldn’t get any push and couldn’t protect the QB.

I’m not saying our coaching was good, they weren’t and I’m glad we moved on, but it’s way too simplistic to act like our OL wasn’t a massive problem that impacted the plays we could even run. When you only have 10 yards of room, CMC can’t make amazing moves to other holes when the OL aren’t good.

It’ll take a whole lot more than hopefulness to fix the OL. Even if that happens, the main issue is that the dynamic offense will just keep the score close while we lose 35-27.

Offensively the Panthers are positioned well if they can tackle the problems on the offensive line under the new ownership instead of kicking the can down the road. With Teddy you have either a guy that's going to get it done well enough to win with the pieces around him, or going to be a great tutor to the guy drafted to be the new face of the franchise,  much like Alex Smith in Kansas City.

The difficult part for the Panthers remains the defense. They're right back to where they were before Kuechly stepped into the locker room. The front 7 is aged out except for a young-ish LBer with a good skill set, and they have a gaping hole in the middle of the defensive line. If they can fix that hole, the defense improves dramatically, but you also must deal with the very real problem of losing KK right after and putting another whole in the ship.

All of that is before you tackle the fact that you don't have a #1 CB to speak of, and you might not even have a #2, but it's hard to tell when your front 7 is so poor that the CBs just don't have any help.

The Panthers defense might not be good enough to win, if everything goes ideally on the offensive side of the ball, for another 2 years.

I would say realistically our offensive success relies on Teddy B being able to deliver the ball to the WRs and the offensive line being able to protect him enough to do that. We know Anderson can take the top off a defense and we all know what CMC and Moore can do when given space underneath. I think our biggest hangup will be like last year the red zone. If Thomas flourishes then we will have a good bit of success but if not we will be still undersized in the red zone and will have to scheme people open. Finding a Michael Thomas type WR would also help matters a bunch. We don't really have a big body to high point balls and take on LBs over the middle.

Our leading target for TDs in the endzone was Samuel last year. Between him and Anderson(who is 6'3) we should be better than last year. Add in the McCaffrey checkdown (which is damn near impossible to stop), Ian Thomas/Seth Devalve, and whoever makes it between Kirkwood (6'3), Seth Roberts (6'2), and Zylstra (6'2). That said....we can ALWAYS improve.

The only problem we may encounter is the same one we've had since 2017. Which would be punching it in via RB. Ironically thats the last year we hit the playoffs. When Stewart left, I mentioned on this board that we would miss Stew hurdling over the line.
