Could Jeudy or Lamb be the pick at #7?

CAROLINA: After the Panthers traded for Russell Okung, sources around the NFL don't expect Carolina to draft an offensive tackle in the first round. One source suggested Matt Rhule and Joe Brady could surprise a lot of people and draft a wide receiver at No. 7 overall. "Look at that LSU offense. They're going to need more athletes at wide receiver to run Brady's scheme," is how the scout explained it.

Carolina could have the scariest offense in 2020 with Joe Brady, Teddy Bridgewater, DJ Moore, Robby Anderson, Jeudy or Lamb with Curtco being a nice #4.

This is just click bait. Kliff Kingsbury soon realized that you can't stay in 10 personnel in the NFL and be successful. We have DJ Moore and Curtis Samuel already on the roster. This offseason brought us Robby Anderson, Seth Roberts, and Pharoh Cooper (mainly as a return man). One of those guys is going to be off the field most of the game. The addition of a top WR would be criminal with the holes we have at DT, CB and NB.

I would not be surprised at all.  

What if that is why we are seeing rumors about Samuel?  Maybe if they draft Jeudy they look to move him.

I would, love for us to take a receiver in this class, just not with our first pick.  That is one reason I'm not too opposed to a trade down at 7.  I would love to get a WR in the 2nd, and still be able to get a CB and DL in the first 2 rounds.

I don’t think that we will even have a chance to sniff Okudah or Simmons. I think they are both top 4 locked.

I do not see this in relation to what we did in the free agency.  I put this together so I could see it:

Emerging as an elite WR.  Moore is smooth.  With Anderson to take focus off him, he could take another step.

Deep threat, but can do more.  Jets did not use him well.  We will. Anderson has good speed, hands, and fights for the ball in air.  He could be really good in the right system. He thinks this is the right system, which is why he rejected a better offer from the Jets.

Could be the next “Swiss army knife” slot WR—I am not sure we used CS like he should have been used.

Seth Roberts

Slot WR by trade, elusive after the catch, clutch player with suspect hands.  6-2 at age 29.  I did not like this signing, considering the WRs in the draft. Big, one-year contract. ($3+m)

Keith Kirkwood

Was Saints’ 3rd WR (stats) in 2018 in only 8 games, injured in 2019.  At 25, he has upside and this “prove it” season should be a good one.  I think he is a diamond in the rough and should make the roster.  Not sure about his contract amount, so he is likely to be on the bubble in camp.

Pharoh Cooper

Cooper caught 25 passes last season in limited duty; he has strong return skills.  He has a spot on the roster, imo, as a #5 or #6—remember, Brady flirts with 5 WR sets…1 year, reasonable contract ($1.3m or so)

Brandon Zylstra

He is my dark horse, but he was impressive in limited duty last seasons.  A possession WR, would have to get some breaks to see a roster spot.  However, he has a shot, based on last season.

DeAndrew White

At 28 in his third season, he was brought back as camp fodder, but he did flash in preseason enough last year to get a close look in camp.

Analysis:  The Panthers seem financially committed to the top 4 WRs and have some young, talented, veteran WRs in Cooper and Kirkwood.  That is six.  If we draft a WR, someone will need to be cut.  With two, potentially-elite WRs in Moore and Anderson, and with Samuel at #3, it is hard to see the need to add a WR at this point.  Brady has enough weapons--solid top end (Anderson, Moore), good middle (Samuel, Roberts), and developing young (25) players at the bottom of the WR roster (Kirkwood, Cooper).

There are two ways to look at the deep WR draft---1) yes, the WRs available could make us awesome, but if we select a WR, we don’t select a player at another position where we may have a much bigger need.  2) If everyone is grabbing WRs in this draft, it causes other players to drop—like DTs, CBs, and LBs.

Games are played on the field, not on Madden.  This also isn't 7-on-7, so OL and DL actually matter.  Atlanta and Tampa had the deepest/talented WR corps last year and neither finished above .500.  I'm not getting this stack the deck mentality at WR considering the roster is full of holes.  Taking arguably the most complete position on the team, making it even stronger while other spots barely have starters makes no sense to me.

Nah. No chance we're taking a WR in the first three or four rounds.

This is a huge class of quality WRs and hopefully many teams will dip into that pool and the deep QB one as well, leaving more quality defensive players available to us.

      QB: We should look to add a developmental QB late in the draft, IMO. Never hurts to take a shot in the 6th or 7th round. I'm not sure Plummer is that guy. Bonus if it's someone who can be a short-yardage/QB sneak threat. RB: I expect we'll sign a veteran backup and draft one on day 3. Long-term we're in great shape here if Brooks recovers fully and even if he doesn't we only need a solid #2 and some depth. WR: This is a weird position because there is legit potential with what we have on the roster if XL and Coker develop and Thielen is a known quantity at this point, but obviously not a long-term piece at his age. I almost feel like the only sure fire way to upgrade our WR corp this season is to add that true #1 guy because I'm not sure a mid-tier or aging veteran does anything but muddy the water and take snaps away from XL and Coker that they need to develop. I'm still not ruling out a big trade for a true #1 here before the draft (Tee Higgins? Brandon Ayiuk?) but we will almost surely sign at least a veteran for depth. This seems like an obvious day 2 target position in the draft as well. I like Jack Bech from TCU or Ricky White III from UNLV in the 3rd. TE: I think we're done here. I know there's been talk of drafting Tyler Warren, but I honestly don't see it. Had we not re-signed Tremble I might say there's a chance, but he's obviously our TE2 and I don't see them paying him only to draft Tyler Warren, which would put Sanders as TE2 and Tremble as TE3. I could see us maybe adding a blocking TE late in the draft, but we're probably done here. OL: We may legitimately have one of the best AND deepest OLs in the league. Bringing back both Cade Mays and Austin Corbett was a solid move, but managing to re-sign Brady Christensen is massive for depth purposes. I cannot fathom how he didn't have more interest on the open market based on his versatility alone. Even Chandler Zavala showed some signs of life last year after an awful rookie season. I can see us drafting a tackle in the 4th/5th round that we feel has some upside to develop as Taylor Moton's long-term replacement, but we finally seem set here for the first time in years. EDGE: Our biggest need and it's not close. Outside of a trade for someone like Trey Hendrickson I think we almost have to draft two edge rushers in the first 4 rounds, maybe even the first 3. The closer we get to the draft the more I'm starting to think Shemar Stewart is our likely pick at #8. I'm not sure how I feel about that given his lack of sack production, but you can't question the athletic ability. It's almost certainly either him or Jalon Walker. DL: I can see us adding some more FAs for depth before the draft and drafting a player or two as well. The real interesting scenario is if Mason Graham falls to us at #8; I don't think we can pass on him, but where would he play? Do you leave your $50M free agent (Wharton) on the bench? Unlikely since I think Graham is gone before we pick, but something to consider. LB: If there's one position I'd like to see us address other than EDGE and WR it's definitely linebacker. Josey Jewell and Trevin Wallace are not exactly the most inspiring tandem, IMO. Wallace flashed last year but is still very raw and Jewell is just a guy. I'd LOVE to see us go after Carson Schwesinger from UCLA, Chris Paul, Jr. from Ole' Miss or Jack Kiser from Notre Dame in the draft. The remaining FA options aren't great. CB: I'd like to see us add an experienced nickel; Mike Hilton from the Bengals would be great. Other than that, unless someone falls to us in the draft I think the most we can expect to add is some depth in the draft or later in free agency. S: We need another starter (preferably someone who is more of a cover guy) and some depth. There are options I like in the draft, but given our other needs I think the safer bet would be signing another free agent to start at FS and drafting some depth. ST: Need a long-term kicker and unless we sign one I fully expect us to draft one on day 3.
