Would be a fun ironic twist if we sign Darues after we cut Cam. 

I'm not no worried about DT, worst case we can pick up someone off the waiver wire at the 53 man cut and get to "at least not awful" state on the cheap. We simply have to accept we have to many holes to plug.

Since the end of 2016 he has had just as many ACL surgerys as games played in the NFL, 2.  Why would you sign someone who you don't know can even walk without a limp much less run and let him take up a roster spot when you can get an UDFA that won't even count against the cap and you at least know the guy can run.  I don't see any team signing a guy like him until they can have their medical team check him out which you can't do to anyone right now.

I think we will be looking heavily after the draft.
 

That said it wouldn’t surprise me if we dipped our toe in the FA market in a week or so if the market and transactions are pretty quiet.  Guys sitting at home (literally) waiting for the phone to ring.  Can maybe get a deal or two on some decent vets for the defense.  Nothing to break the bank but just one ore two to start solidifying the roster.

No offense, but it is gonna be a very defensive draft.  

I see Simmons in the first (If he is there, if not watch them reach for MLB Murray or something like that).  Brown is possible---not sure about Kinlaw at 7, but if Marty is picking, our radius might not extend beyond the range of a half tank of gas.

CB in the second--but if a MLB (Murray or Queen) were to fall, they could grab him.

CB or DT in the third.

 

Now watch them take a QB in the first and a C in the second. ...If so, plan to bet the over a lot.

At this point we have more holes than draft picks. So we're either going to trade back in the 1st to acquire more picks or continue signing more cheap 1-year UFA's 

IMMEDIATE NEEDS:

- iOL

- iDL (at least 2 DT's)

- LB

- 3rd safety 

- CB (3 corners)

There are needs all over the defense but CB is easily the biggest need.

Lets say we don't do anythign from here on out:

DT - Short and Kerr

DE - Burns and Wheatherly

CB -  Jackson and ?

The size of contracts that the team hands out tells you a lot about their thinking.  Any player that gets more than the league minimum, the team is expecting something out of that player.

Seems like the most pressing need for a "starter" is at corner and after about the second round the chance of getting a starter goes down tremendously.

I fully expect CB to be one of the first two picks by us, if we don't add anyone before the draft.

If I have to a starting CB and DT and my choices are:

1st round CB and 3rd DT 

or

1st round DT and 3rd round CB

I'll look for the DT later any year.  Quality run stopping DTs are a lot easier to find later than quality outside CBs.
