We Need To Trade For Josh Rosen

For a 7th rounder why not? He’s never had a fair shot with a team looking to be successful. He will create more competition. Walker is most likely going to be a practice squad stash. Grier is not a capable #2 yet or may never be. Rosen at least has some experience and is able to help the coaching staff with translating practice to on the field production. 3rd string QBs are mostly used as a understudy or intern coach. I’m all for that but unfortunately if Miami does go QB in the first someone will offer more for him. I’ve been hearing rumors that other teams have been inquiring about him for a few months now.

I don't even think Rosen is a roster caliber QB, much less a franchise QB. He and Will Grier are about the same level IMO and honestly, I'd rather give Grier another shot than Rosen simply because due to a smaller sample size to judge.

I think Rosen belongs in the NFL.  That being said, I'm a card carrying Josh Rosen hater and I have been since his college days.  I never understood the hype, until I went back to his high school tape (where his initial hype machine would have started).  He looked like Peyton Manning playing against high school kids.  He truly did look almost pro ready and completely overpowered those kids.  From that standpoint, I can see where some scouts fell in love with him and never let that love die, hoping to recapture that level of dominance.  Unfortunately Rosen doesn't seem capable of turning in those kind of performances against real athletes, other than a few throws here and there that make you go "wow."

Rosen has a rep for being one of those guys who thinks he's a lot better than he actually is.

Always pass on those guys.

If we did that, we’d have zero cornerbacks on the roster.

you guys are really fond of our 7th round draft pick. Flipping it or a former first round pick still on their rookie contract seems reasonable to me. I can’t tell you if he is good or bad but I know that He most certainly was not the problem in AZ. That team and that line were historically bad.

The problems vs a 7th round pick:

  • His play so far hasn't led you to believe he's going to be a good NFL QB. He was even worse last year than in year 1.
  • He was originally traded away for a late 2nd and late 5th round pick. That's no where close to 7th overall value.
  • He's 2-3 years older than likely anyone you'll pick at 7.
  • His rookie contract is already almost up

It would be the worst trade in the HISTORY of trades.

A 7th round pick. That comes approx 220 picks after a 7th overall pick that literally no one is suggesting.

Last year we used a 7th round pick on terry Godwin and cut him. The only argument I could see is if we planned on using that pick for a kicker. Additionally, almost anyone that we are looking at in round 7, would likely be available 10 minutes later as an UDFA.

So hear me out...

If Miami drafts a QB then we should offer a 7th round pick for Rosen.

His salary this year is 1.4 and has one more year with a 5th YEAR OPTION which is very valuable. He has gotten a raw deal each of the last 2 years yet he was very highly rated QB when coming into the league.

I think given how low is draft value could be it would be worth a roster spot to bring him on board. I dont think he would beat out TB but would likely be our #2. Given that he would be so cheap for this year and next we would have a lot of time to look at him to see if you could eventually push TB for the #1 spot.

Im under the mentality that you cannot go wrong by having too many QB's on the roster. We are in a position where we need one.

This seems like a low risk / high reward investment.

If we were going to do this we would have been better served to keep KA.

Still don't think he is even worth that for us. If we liked him that much then ship them off Grier so we only have one little upside QB on the roster or just wait until he is cut. That 5th year option isn't worth anything right now, it's actually overpaying him. The 7th round is certainly more ball park than the 7th pick for sure.

I don't get how folks are confused about the 7th round vs. #7 thing. It says right in the OP, "7th round".

Anyway, wouldn't do it. Simply don't want him on the roster, because I would never want him on the field.

He doesn't have an NFL arm and has proven it. At midrange, he can't put enough flat speed on it to hit windows, so he checks down from throws - or forces it and gets intercepted. Going deep, it's one banana ball after another with so much air under the throws that the DBs on the ground have time to bicker amongst themselves about whose turn it is to get the interception.

No more of this type please.

To be fair - i edited the post. The pre edit said "we should trade our 7th pick", which was interpreted as 7th overall.

    • yeah. winter backpacking trips were the most miserable and amazing experiences. same with the coldest and snowiest hunting  experiences. i love being in it. makes for incredible memories. the worse it was, the more i ended up loving it. made the greatest memories.  i just want to get out of it afterwards.
    • I forgot about Jackson...definitely elite.  The sad part of your list is that 2 of them were 'there for the taking for the Panthers'.  Rumor has it that Hurney loved Herbert and was vetoed on trying to trade up.  And rumor has it that Frank & McCown wanted Stroud.  I believe both rumors.
    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
