14 Playoff Teams

The better fix....division winners aren't higher seeded than teams with better records.

The Cardinals at 11-5 shouldn't have to come here to play a 7-8 Panthers team, just like the Chargers from two seasons ago had to go play a home game in NE because once again NE won that terrible division.

Seed the teams by record, that's the best fix.

I agree. Honor the divisions by giving every division winner an automatic playoff berth, but not automatic seeding.

Honestly if they are going to do this just get rid of divisions or go closer to how the NHL does. Top 7 teams(I guess now) make it, the rest dont.

The NHL takes 16 out of 31 teams, soon to be 32.  How they get them is not without controversy.  The top 3 teams in each of the four divisions make the playoffs, then the next best two in each conference (two divisions per conference).  Had the owners had their way, it would have been the top four in each division, and the first two rounds of the playoffs would be games within the division.  Had the players had their way, it would have been the two division winners in each conference and then the 6 next best teams in each conference.

As it is, the first two rounds of the playoffs are "sorta" within the division.

They’re doing the Nickelodeon thing to try to get more kids interested in football because of all the head injuries stuff. It’s shady as hell. The nfl is evil.

I think you are reading too much into that.  They are turning to Nickelodeon to try and get more kids interested because kids have a higher tolerance for things beyond their comprehension (like NFL rules) and complete fiascos that most adults do.  They are also more likely to relate to Goodell's decison-making process, since it resembles eeny-meeney-miney-moe.

I think many people share this opinion and I respect it and am in no way attacking you when I say this.  Your opinion of whether you like it or not does not matter 1 bit.

Using easy math,  lets say there are 10 million NFL fans In total. 5 million hardcore fans love it and the other 5 take your stance Despite this stance disapproval 80% of those who hate it will most likely WATCH the extra playoff games. The NFL now has 9 million people watching their new play toy which equates to more TV and ad revenue.

Doesnt matter who likes it or not.  All that matters is if you’ll will watch it.

Oh 1000%; that's without question. I will tune in I'm sure. However, at what point should money not come into play when considering the integrity of the game is my primary stance.

Agreed.  Divisions still stamp your ticket to the show, but don't automatically give you a top 4 seed, or a home playoff game.

They should just let all 32 teams make the playoffs. Call it the Hurney rule.

How about 31 teams.  No matter what happens, the Detroit Lions never deserve to be in the playoffs.

Taking all 32 teams would cheapen it.  I hope the league is not reading the following hair-brained idea, because they will probably implement it.

Take the division winners (8) and the next best 8 teams by record, four in each conference (wild cards).  The have a lottery drawing among the bottom 16 to randomly select 4 more for each conference.  The 8 wild cards can play the 8 lottery winners, and the winners from that play the 8 division winners.

Make the lottery a two day event in Las Vegas, where they draw a team every 3 hours. It would sure generate fan interest among the teams not good enough to make the playoffs by record, even though we are taking half the frigging league based on their ability to not be one of the bottom half.

Oh, and we can give the 8 that do not win slots in the lottery all trophies, too.
